It is a thousand little things.
It starts with taking care of yourself before you ever become pregnant and having enough economic opportunities to provide them with the healthful things that you and he or she may need even prior to pregnancy.
After they are born, you show them love, give them security and let them take the little baby steps as they fall. Give them a soft space to land when they do, because they will.
As they reach toddler-hood use every experience to teach them something, don't depend on the public school system to teach them. Use every opportunity you have. Learn as much as you can so that you can be their teacher, because ultimately you are.
You have to hewn in on your individual child. If they like matchbox cars, teach them to count by twos, threes, etc. using matchbox cars. If they like butterflies plant them a butterfly bush so that they can learn about different butterflies. It can be as individual as their smiles.
Let them cuddle up next to you as you read them a simple book providing more love and cuddles than stanch reading. You want them to learn to love to read and what better way to do that by being in your arms.
Love, water, and take good care of them, get educational toys and games into their hands as soon as they come in the world. Watch them grow like flowers and provide security, love, and good nutrition to help them be the best they can be.
Nurture them more than any pet or mate you have ever had. Give them opportunities to learn, be it in public, private or home-school.
Let them see you on your learning quest because that will make them learn how to learn and that is half the battle.
Teach them to think for themselves and to search consequences to various actions.
Teach them that every choice, is like a tree, that we all start out at the trunk of the tree and that our first choice will take us to a branch and then to a limb and then to a twig. That all our choices will end up with us being in the sunlight or the darkness on our tree of life.
The simplest thing you can do really is take care of yourself because if they see you taking care of yourself while taking care of them they will learn to do the same.
Finally, do everything you can with love instead of hate, that will make us have a better society and what more better way to help our children.
In short, if you do all these things and more you will have a child that feels love and has a sense of self and others.
At that point they will have learned to find their own way.
Good luck and may all our children be blessed in every-way.
