It's a neighbor, however I do not know them, and the cars has been on the street for the last 4 years that I remember without
without moving. What I want to know is if $2,500 is a good price for a 1981 Vette in any condition, and if I fix it, what would it actually be worth?

Good Morning! Saw this one and had to try my hand. Does the car run first off? Have you checked ALL the fluid levels? Any puddles underneath the car now? or after it runs? Have you looked extensively UNDER the car for body damage? or structural damage? If all this checks out? even if the car needs a new engine? transmission? rear-end? you have a very nice investment there! 1 other thing you may think about is the VIN (vehicle identification number) You may want to run it thru your locals and make sure it isn't stolen! By the way? If the car has matching numbers? as in the VIN is on the body, engine, tranny & rear end? That makes its value to you even greater! Nice to have a legal car and all the numbers match especially if you chose to restore and resell it in the future. Good luck and I hope this helps a little! Hyway.

Of course there's something wrong with it!!!
Considering a '81 Vette averages $10-15k then plan on some drastic problems. Might be driveable, but I would seriously doubt it would be dependable. Transmission rebuild alone is in the $1500 neighborhood..... be careful!!
For more detailed info please email.

Tell me where it is and I will make this question go away for you. If the engine is blown, the tires flat, the transmission broken and the rear end shot - just let me know where it is. For that price I can make about $7 to $8 grand after I replace EVERYTHING. You keep checking the fluids and let me know where it is!!!!!!

As long as it's not rusted out, it's a great buy. I wouldn't expect the engine or tranny to work for that price. So if it does you are lucky. Buy it if you have the time to work on it. It will soon be a classic.

it i not a good proce if there is a major issue with it-- if he is hedging about a mechanic then either he knows there is a problem or supspects there is one-- THERE IS DECINATE REASON WHYIT HAS BEEN SITTING FOR 4 YEARS run run run

Don't buy it. If he won't let you take to a mechanic than there is probably something wrong with it (transmission? engine?)
