I know what you mean. This morning while driving to work - there was this Corvette - a lot of traffic ahead (speed limit 40 mph) and he was weaving in and out - tailgating behind everyone and almost causing about 3 accidents just to hurry up and get no where - the weather is bad - the roads are wet and this guy was making a fool out of himself and could have caused a serious problem. I think he stressed a bunch of people out first thing in the morning and that's not good for anyone.

This guy, 'well traveled' ... did he learn how to drive from playing video games and watching Nascar??!??! .... A "safe following distance" is not a "gap" for gamers like you to be rushing to "fill in" and weaving in and out of! On the highway, you don't just hit "F2" and start a new game, you SUFFER AND DIE.
I think it's basically a mind-set. Some of us view highway travel as a cooperative effort, where we all work together to make it a safe trip for everyone. Others are thinking only of their own car and drive at a habitual speed until prevented from doing so ... then they fret.
Does anyone remember TV back before de-regulation? Remember how many Public Service Announcements there used to be about safe driving practices? Those have gone the way of Beta-Max and vinyl LPs and in consequence no one knows simple driving rules and traffic deaths and injuries have soared.
For a college class, I took a survey asking people about driving habits and found that most ...
Don't know how to determine a safe following distance
Don't know how to pass on multi-lane highways
Don't know the difference between Yield and Merge
Don't understand 'Do Not Block Intersection'
It's amazing to me how much loss and suffering and loss results from poor driving practices, yet our government does so little to address the problem.

There is a perception of gaining time if you are simply ahead of the person that is blocking you. What people don't realize is that you are travelling about 90 feet per second at 60 mph. That means that every 3 seconds you are travelling about a football field. If you stop and think abou that, how much time are you really saving by being ahead of that person in front of you.

They are not thinking and they should lose their licence because they are danger on the road . That is the same mentality as road rage and swerving in and out of traffic just to move up a few spots .

Well, if you're the person who's got 20 car lengths between you and the car in front of you in heavy traffic, they're using their vehicle to suggest that you KEEP UP. Numerous studies have shown that the drivers who leave huge spaces in front of them in heavy traffic are the ones that cause traffic jams -- them and the ones who don't know how to merge properly. Those same studies show that even with lots of cars on the road, speeds should still be at or near speed limits were it not for the inattentive drivers who leave huge gaps, don't pay attention to when gaps could be filled in, and people who stop on on-ramps and don't merge properly.

some times there's a line of cars been hold by a single driver at the begining of the line who just have all the time in life to reach it's destiny, and a second line is hold back by an elder person driver.and if that's not the case when it happens we want you to move to the next lane so we can cut thru. at some point in that jam we find the break.

Because they're idiots.
I just slow down ;) I don't hit my brakes because that would be dangerous, but I slow down. Usually they get the hint and they'll either make their way into another lane or back off to a more reasonable distance. And then I get back to normal speed.
(Side note: I think they have small, er, brains)

They don't have nothin else better to do but to try and pi** you off. They also think its fun when it is against the law. They also might just want the damn traffic to get goin when tail gating isn't the answer to their problem.
