I find it a barbaric, although it can be good entertainment. But for the health of the players, should it stop? I mean, with other sports, injuring the opponent is punished because it's against the rules of the game, but with boxing, the object of the game is to hurt the opponent. Think of Muhammad Ali. Some people think that his parkinson's was brought on by brain injury in the ring

Hell no! The people want to see blood and guts all the time and they are giving the sport of boxing a bad image. It is a sport! It's about skills and condition. And yes; there are some cases of people getting hurt. But I don't think is intentionally. Ronald 'Winky' Wright is an example of how boxing should be.

OK!!! Here we go - Firstly if you think boxing is barbaric then you havent seen wresteling(ok its fake and all, but some of the injuries are real, and its way worse then boxing). Boxing should not be banned because it is a sport that has been going on for years, and i can also tell you that is not amazingly dangerous. There is always a ref. there watching the game and stopping the fight(sometimes in places where i even think the player can go on) if he thinks they are injured or not able to fight for some apparent reason. They are also wearing gumshields so there teeth wont fall out. I have you know that boxing would be may more 'barbaric' if it wasnt fought in a safety ring. Also to finish it off these people are put up against people approimatly at there standered. They wont fight som1 40pounds more than them!!!
If these people didn't want to fight, they wouldn't, but they are because they want to - its a FREE CHOICE - a FREE WORLD (not in money wise(sadly)... if only... anyway) LOL.
I hope that helps and you see how and why boxing cannot be banned (there wouldnt be enough people anyway saying it should be banned to banned it because boxing is a world wide sport!!!)

boxing is a physical sport, however if you really want to ban boxing, ban wrestling and mixed martial arts first. i'm not saying that they're more barbaric than boxing but if you would notice, boxing is more formal, more disciplined than mixed martial arts in the sense that

first: it's objective is to knock out an opponent by the use of punches and not by grappling and smashing the opponent's face hard and crushed on the canvas.

second: the momentum of boxing is limited to the boxing gloves alone, unlike in other mixed martial arts where every part of the body is a lethal arsenal

and third: boxing is of competitiveness of strength and stamina and speed while in the mixed martial arts, it's the survival of the fittest.

boxing, for me, should not be banned. actually, the queensbury rules is already enough to protect the boxers. you should know how john sullivan boxes during his time when it is still of infinity round. boxing by then, stops only when there's only one man left standing, there's no limited rounds, and they're all fighting with bare fists. that's why it was called then as bareknuckle boxing.

i know that was quite long but i hope i answered your question

NO it should not be banned. And I am not a big sports guy. It should be up to the individual to do what they want if they think they are good or maybe they like doing it, so leave them go for it, as long as they don't hurt people who don't want to be hurt. We don't stop people from playing chess so why stop people from other sports. If you don't like it don't watch it. If you are afraid they may get hurt then you must keep every one in there homes because they may get hurt at work also. Who is to say what the next guy can and can not do, this is a free country or it was anyway before our government (attorneys) started screwing it up more and more. If there is no money in it there would not be so many people doing it, it is a chance people take for getting rich and they know what there choices are. Let the boxers (every one) do what they want as long as they don't harm others.

Absolutely not.

I come from an upper middle class household and got into Boxing at the beginning of this year for personal fitness but it became more than that, it became a passion. Boxing Isn't just about messing up faces because that's what comes to most peoples mind. Boxing is a dance, if you take the time to watch people train and look at the footwork, the speed and the movement of the hips theres much much more too it, balance is a big part in it. And yes of course if you are doing matches your going to get hurt but you can get hurt in anything you do, even if your just crossing the street. But also think about what Boxing does do for people, It's great for fitness, defense, relieves stress I could keep going but whatever...Instead of judging take a class for yourself.

No. In what way is it barbaric? No one is forced to box, not like 6 miles of crawling though snow on school cross country.

The aim of boxing is not to hurt the opponent, the aim is to BOX, hence the name BOXING. That means move about and hit the opponent on the body and face.

Injuring opponents is not against the rules of any contact sport. Contact is banned in non contact sports, but you are still allow to hit people in other sports, lacrosse, rugby, football, ice hockey.

Oh no sweetie, the main objective is to score points by punchinfg the opponent, Its just like every other sport where you have the same amount of injury .............and as for the boxers they know what they are getting there self into, and they love to entertain!! So hey as long as they keep making millions off of boxing (cmon their men) then let them entertain, the only thing i think that should be banned is that raw fighting im not sure what its called but like people get their necks broke and they fight with no gloves......but hey like i said there is people who love to take risk so theirs going to be people who love to watch....its a guilty pleasure

first of all, lets be clear on the definition of 'barbaric'

1. Barbarian was originally a Greek term applied to any foreigner, one not sharing a recognized culture or degree of polish with the speaker or writer employing the term. Related terms are barbaric and barbarous.

2. barbarian: without civilizing influences

i agree that boxing is a violent sport, but i do not agree that it is barbaric. The boxers participate out of choice, no one is forced into competing, and they know the risks and are trained fighters.

no no no no boxing is not barbaric more people die a year fishing safety is paramount in the ring, Ive boxed for 11 years and have never stepped in the ring with the intention of hurting my opponents brain, its about out classing an opponent who is the same weight and strength as you it is very much a game of chess only with nose bleeds.

Yes it is barbaric, but most people love it , they loved to watch Tyson hammering other boxers, they loved the Roman games when Christians were fed to the lions (not much wrong with that really)! and they love the bull fighting , then there are still coc* fights going on, along with bear baiting and dog fights!
Some people must still love all that or it wouldn't be ongoing
would it, it's only done to make money (supply and demand)!
My opinion is that it should all be banned, no more 'blood sports' whether the minority love them or not.
Imagine boxing with massive big gloves and headgear, so the boxers couldn't possibly get damaged!! Who would watch that?? no one because there would be no blood flying about.
Ban all blood sports!

People have a right to turn the channel when it comes on. Also many of these boxers come from such destitution that this is really their only chance to make it out of a life of crime and poverty. Do you want to deny these men and women the chance to better themselves because of the risk? More people die racing cars and boats, and football and hockey players suffer concussions and broken bones all the time. Plus name another sport that teaches you to defend yourself, a real and very useful application to many of the young kids that box.
