gi, I used to smoke and I know all about it!! It would be the best thing to raise the prices, because all you people are doing is just killing yourselves and all of the people around you that are taking in the second hand smoke! So if you have children, that means you are killing your children (slowly but surely)!!

the cost of smoking MIGHT give some people the encouragement to quit. You have to realize we not only enjoy it, but we are addicted. I did manage to quit for 6 yrs and in those 6 yrs that craving NEVER left me. I finally gave in due to some extreme stress in my life and honestly I don't know if I could quit again or not. No matter what they cost. I always caution young people-don't take that first puff and you'll never become addicted.

That's about finance, business, policies and, CERTAINLY (VERY IMPORTANTLY) about health. The heavy cost of banned, yet smuggled, contraband goods, narcotics etc. has not eliminated their use, but instead, resulted in many broken homes. Quite possibly, increasing the cost of cigarettes, MAY result in a few more broken homes, because people do not change bad habits easily. Forbidden, or prohibitively costly, goods generate additional attraction for those who are already habituated. However, it is certain that the benefit might start, next generation onwards, because the younger lot, won't get an easy free-hand to get habituated. Make no mistake, various governments of the world are aware, and they will improve their respective systems duly and correctly. But, there must be conscientious efforts from societies and NGOs (Non Government Organizations), also.

I'm taking it you don't smoke. Why don't they make people start paying for the websites they visit? I feel that people who don't smoke don't have a clue how hard it is to stop. Until you've been there maybe you shouldn't knock it. I'm sure you have something you really like to do, now how would you like it if, they raised the price so high you couldn't afford to do it? People who don't smoke, it is easy for them to give an opinion but, you know what they say opinions are like. Don't you?

That sounds like a wonderful idea. But let's take it one step further. Let's say raise the price of all alcoholic beverages the same amount. Per can, per shot, per case, per 5th whatever...Then let that money off-set every ones auto insurance and or pay for all the funerals.
Ya, that's the ticket. I mean Drinking and driving is a crime, smoking and driving is not, but maybe it should be too.

Yes I always wonder that too. But I think ti is the tax that should be raised, not the price. That way the extra tax revenue can be used to boost the healthcare system and research cures for cancer. That is what we do in Canada right now but I don't know why we don't raise the taxes even higher... I guess it would increase illegal purchases.

It would be a good idea, most people would still continue smokin'. They'd make lots of money. But they might be scared that if they raise the price too much, smokers won't smoke no more smokes.

Don't you think its rediculous that people still buy them at $3.00 to $4.00 a pack right now, I think if I did smoke that would be enought to make me quit!
