Ok I have a normal electric brew pot - 10 cup size.

I add cold water
10 tablespoons of coffee (Tim Hortons)
Add some Vanilla extract to the grounds (2 drops) - have tried with and without vanilla

Brew coffee

Only all the water is through make coffee with cream and sugar.

and YUCK its bitter...

what the heck did I do wrong.?

Any ideas out there?

you might want to try bottled water. also you may want to clean your coffee machine out using 50/50 bottled water and white vinegar. then run a clean water rinse through it and start making coffee again. sometimes tap water contains chemicals in it that causes coffee to be bitter.

I agree, cut back on the amount of grounds. The coffee could also have gone bad. It is best to buy whole beans, grind only the amount you need at that moment, and store the whole beans in a air-tight glass container (I like to keep mine in the fridge or freezer. If you do that, be sure to use glass, and air-tight!!!). THe grind of the beans itself could be making giving you a bitter brew. Either make your grind finer or coarser (sorry, I always mix-up which one it is!).

WOW THATS A LOT OF COFFEE for a single pot
i use 3 tablespoons of coffee for a 12 cup pot

Maybe your using too much coffee or too little. Maybe the vanilla extract is doing something to it. try a pot without it.

many people regulary drink weak,bitter,brownish hot water and accept it thinking that what coffee is.it isnt.coffee need not taste like charcoal,without any chocalate having been added.

if it is bitter add more water....that helps.

if it is sour..throw them all
