So they can relate the word to the person. I'm assuming you are talking about VERY small children that still cant grasp the association.

We are modelling how we want the kids to address us.
If we say, "I have an important phone call," or "He can't do that right now," the child will never learn that people have names, or what they are.
Small children have to learn grammar and ways to address others from mimicing their parents.

I did that with my 3 kids and now I do it with my 3 grandchildren. I don't know why? I'd like to know myself. I though I was the only one who did that , I'm glad to hear of another person who does that too. My mother never did it SO, I didn't get it fro her,

we revert to childhood babble like they do and forget we're adults ... it's a symptom of parenting and isn't fatal ... we'll learn to talk like adults again in a few years. maybe I'm still working on it ..........here's why .....it's free
