rude ppl are rude anywhere.
if they are angry because of bad products / services, then you can't blame them for not being overly-polite.
you have to take it in your stride.
if the customer is being unreasonably rude (just for the sake of it), then you can forward the case to your superior or hang up.

The simple answer is: These people want to keep their jobs. It happens a lot in customer service jobs or in public service jobs like working for a government agency or law enforcement: You, the employee, are expected to remain courteous and professional at all times. If you don't, it makes your employer look bad -- and in the end you, the employee, get in trouble. Also, if you get enough complaints against you for being rude or unprofessional (no matter how rude or "mean" the person on the other end of the line is) you eventually get fired.

I Know you are right ! They shouldnt be allowed ti be rude !
you guys think we think customers are always right ?
we all know from the cleaner to the Hotel Director how freaky and stupid guest or customers treat employees.
And we are not getting paid for being abused !
I have seen many people abusing Receptionist for stupid things
and as soon the Manager arrives they pretend they are the nicest customer ever . Treat people like you want to be treated ! But I have no excuse for rude Employees either !
Being rude gets your nowhere !!
So remember you guys if you are friendly and kind we do everything for you , stay rude and think with yelling you get things done ! No we just hate you and try to ignore you! We wont go the extra mile for you !

Because companies have the policy that "the customer is always right", which makes some customers think they can behave how they want, the staff can't do anything else than be polite and just take that crap.
In my opinion there should be some limit that when reached, the staff can ask the customer to leave. It's not fair to expect the staff to take whatever crap that comes along, although I understand that companies want their staff polite and customer-friendly. There must be some limit.

Ever worked the Service Desk at Wal-Mart during the Christmas Holiday????
Do you really want to know why customer service people tend to get on the testy side at times??
I had a lady try and bring a purse back for her money back......I opened it up and guess what?????60 billion roaches came running out of that purse all over the service desk (UGH)
I had an ole lady try and bring an old telephone back, When I opened up the ear piece....guess what???? 60 billion roaches
came running out, all over the counter and trying to run up my arm (UGH)
Men and women bringing shoes back----No roaches this time,
but when you look at the shoes....they've been worn several times.
And how about the little kid that came to Wal-Mart to buy his mother a Christmas Present, he bought her some perfume, everyone was nearly crying--- they thought it was so sweet.....I didn't...know why????
He had this little coffee can and guess what???he had about
60 billion pennies that came pouring out of the can all over the service desk and me.
Did I think the little Damien was cute???
What do you think????
*and that is why service desk people are testy....they don't know how to act around normal people.

I have had more customer service workers be rude to me than I've been rude to them. I wouldn't be rude unless they started it or aren't listening to me (like the phone company). I worked in customer service myself and if customers were rude to me, I was rude right back and I didn't get in trouble for it.

It takes a special person to work in customer service. The motto is: "The customer is always right." Businesses want repeat customers, and customer service people have to kiss butt in order to keep them.

The customers are rude because they feel that if they yell and are nasty that they will be able to get away with something that they are not entitled to

I know what you mean. I've seen people do this. I think if your nice then you get what you want more anyway. I try to be nice to those people because I know most customers are so mean.
