OK!.. First U need to check all thees
Best Option (recommended)
Do U have a IEEE 1394 port on your Cam coder or In other words a DV out? If yes, then U need to Have a USB2 Port on your PC. If not Buy a one and Install it in the Computer. In this Way you can transfer Digital Video into your computer.
Other Options
Do you have a USB out on your Cam? if yes then simply connect it to the Computer usb port.
Connect in either way will not solve the problem. U need to find a good Driver for your Camera. Driver is a software which tells Windows what kind of a Camera you have. Check your Camera Model No and find the best driver from http://www.driverguide.com/
Once you Install your Camera Driver, you can Install either Adobe Premier (Advance users) or Ulead Movie studio (easy). And start capturing.
Have Fun !!

if you're trying to burn directly to dvd in the menu of the camcorder... that only works with a vaio pc and click to dvd software. if your computer is not a vaio then you have to use either the software that came with the camcorder (picture package or pixela image mixer) or a software like vegas or pinnacle.
first step is to determine what type of cable you're going to use. If your computer has a firewire port, then just connect the firewire cable into the i.link port of the camcorder. and then set up the software to capture onto the hard drive or burn directly to dvd. Capturing/burning procedure depends on the software you're going to use. if you're going to use usb, then install the drivers first before connecting the camcorder to the computer.

This may or may not be any help but anyway! We have 1000s of vinyl records which we wanted to put onto CD. We bought some software called Audio Cleaning Lab which enables us to connect the stereo to the computer and transfer stuff. You may be able to get a version which works for video - I'd be amazed if there wasn't something available. Good luck with it anyway - if you find anything let us know as I have loads of video tape I need to transfer too!

you need either a video card capable of taking an analog video input and converting it to digital media or they also have external deviced you hook up via USB port to your computer. I have the latter. "Moviebox Deluxe" is the equipment that I use and it comes with Pinnacle Software for editing and customizing the converted video. It also allows you to burn the video to DVD or back on to VHS when you are done editing.

If you camera has a firewire connection then you can use some software such as pinnacle studio to capture to a hard drive, edit and then export to DVD. if you have only s-video out on the camera you will need an ADVC unit, Canopus do a few.

If your camcorder has an IEEE 1394 port, it is called a "firewire port" you can plug straight in. the computer will recognize it like plug and play.
If not, you can buy a cheap TV card for the computer, then plug in the camcorder and away you go. most tv cards have video editing and recording software, so should be no problem.
