What is the techincal term for a knob that won't screw on straight. I am correcting an article for a non-native english speaker who works for a bike-part engineering company. He has a knob that screws onto a thread (part of a suspension system) but as there is a problem with the part the knob does not screw on evenly... what is the technical term for this?

Good Morning! Saw this one and had to try my hand. If the "knob" is not screwing down all the way? and there is thread damage to the parts? That is called cross-threading. Some also refer to this as "galling". In some situations? the thread "pitch" of one part could differ from the other causing the problem as well. Hope this helps in some small way! Hyway.
