It might as well be, like religion, it's always in your face, you can't get far without finding someone trying to ram it down your throat, The TV and media, are on the band waggon, and pushing it all over the world.
I believe that football at least as bigger following as religion arround the world, save America and a few other countries, and is known to cause a lot less conflict, which can only be a good thing.

Obviously not, but isn't it interesting that...
If you sing loudly and smile and raise your hands in the air at a football match then it's called getting into the game and being a real fan,
If you cry at a film, then the film is 'touching' or 'poignant',
If you dance at a club or a gig, then the music was 'engaging',
But if you do any of those in a church while worshipping God, some people mock it as 'emotionalism', as if you've lost control of your senses.
To answer the question though, religion is a label you give to something once enough people are into it - it's not popularity! Otherwise 'Food' or 'Alcohol' would be two of the biggest religions, perhaps 'breathing' as well.

Absolutely for some fans.
It is obvious the way some fans are taking watching their team match more important to their religious obligations.
According to the present situation, it seems to be. Coz many as in muslims are missing the obligatory prayers because of watching match. And as if it is planned, the matches are scheduled right at the time for that.
Again some are believing in Soccer better than the way they believe in their religious in the sense that they can decide to die for it while not at all for their own religious.

What is "Soccer"
How can this be a new world religion if I do not even know what you are talking about??
Maybe you are referring to football..????
If this is the case, then of course!
Football is growing everyday and the interest in God is getting smaller and smaller everyday!
Football has been "bigger" than god for a very long time already!

Tis' always been. Where else do you see fully grown men cry after a game, others shoot each other and some of us ignore all else for the world cup?
(for the next one month, it is the ONLY religion all over the world where there's a TV set !! )

Is the new opium!
Forget about TV, Church and Yahoo answers. If you are not addicted to Football (not soccer) you will be.
It is some kind of hapiness passport. Did you ever read or heard anything about terrorism in Brazil?

Oh please no. Noooo, noooo, noooo. An obsession maybe - but not a religion - no higher power, no belief system etc etc - just a bunch of overpaid twits kicking a ball about.
