The important thing is to stick strongly with routine. Young children have a hard time eating large amounts of food at once, it can be more effective to continuously offer food through out the day.
Don't let them drink large amounts of fluids directly before or during diner as fluids can leave them filling full...but make sure you have a little something to wash down food, and do keep them well hydrated though out the day If you sit down for diner and child can't finish, let him burn off some energy then call them back from play to try again (with the same food). Don't give in and offer stuff they will over stuff they should eat)....Try avoiding late day naps, and particularly long naps. Keep your bed time early and consistent. in the beginning try staying int the room with the child, rubbing the back, or something soothing (some children resist their own urge to sleep) To dull outside distracting sounds try a low volumed talk radio station (music lulls people in and out of sleep) This will also often times keep them asleep later in the morning insuring you a later sleep.

How old is your child? You may want to make sure she has activity during the day. Do you know what she/he likes? Turn the lights out and lay down with her/him for a while.
