Nicholas~
I was once there my self. I know how you feel and I bet tons of other kids are feeling the same way. The best thing for you to do is to relax!!! Many people say that you have to do well in school to get any where in life. I say that if you give it all you have and you know that you yourself are trying you will be able to accomplish what you want. If you make out a planner about when you are going to do things in your life like homework, projects, and even getting a haircut, you'll see that things will fall into place and work out for you. I know what you mean about being sleepy all the time. Especially when it comes to school, but if you get a good-night sleep and stop stressing about school you start feeling a lot better. These next four years of school will go by so fast, I know it don't feel that way, but they do!!! If you go to college that will be great but again you do what you want to do and accomplish what YOU want!!! When school is all over for you, like myself, you'll look back and think you should have done this or shouldn't have done that.
Hope this has helped you in any way that you need!!!! I wish I could tell you that school is fun, but its not, its hard work!! When you become a senior that is when you'll have the fun. So keep trying hard and doing your work and your senior year will be here soon!!!!

when I was young. now a mother, I felt the same way. I guess we all hate school. getting up early, staying in school all day, then go home for a lot of homework. everyday the samething. then when you finish school and become married and have children, you look back and say, boy I wish I was back in school. less problems. it may not seem that way now, but wait until you are older and a parent. you have to take care of your children and bills, bills and more bills and make sure your family has a roof over their heads. this is life. summer vacation should be starting soon. here in ga the kids are home a month on summer vacation already

You are not alone in your feelings, especially as a high-achieving student. Depression and/or anxiety issues can happen easily with intelligent young people. Life can feel awfully overwhelming.

You need to get counselling (and possibly medications for a little bit) to help you cope with your depression. Your school and parents should link you up with someone who specializes in teen emotional issues, especially if there's someone available who works with highly intelligent young people on a regular basis. One of the biggest hurdles can be parent egos regarding having a child who is getting counselling. They have to see it as about you, not about them (regardless of what the reality is, either way).

I was where you are now. It is a long road to overcome these feelings, and it hurts to have them!

Things that finally helped me (just to give you some things to think about):
--I finally found a career I was interested in.
--I found someone in my early 20's (who eventually became my husband), who was there for me regardless of what I was doing in my classwork/career.
--I went through regular counselling, and took anti-depressive and anti-anxiety prescription medication for a while (under doctor supervision) until I got a handle on my life (now off the meds and doing well).

Feeling so drowsy and disoriented is a sign of extreme depression and anxiety. Ask for help... you show more strength in asking for help than in "suffering in silence." That you posted here is an excellent first step.

You are NOT alone! Those of us who have survived this are out here, and many counsellors for this sort of thing are also survivors of the smart-kid anxiety/depression agony. Believe that this will pass, and you will be able to enjoy life again.

Sounds like you are just having normal student burnout. It will be ok, the time is almost up and welcome Summer Vacation. HOWEVER, if you think you got it rough now, wait til you are an adult. I know it's cliche, what parents say about "enjoy it now...blah blah blah"....but I swear they are right. I wish, somedays, that I could go back and ONLY have the problems I had when I was in school. Stick to it and make the best of it NOW.

Take a minute and just relax and breathe. Do the most important things first and then move on to different things. I didn't like school either but that is something that everyone needs in order to be successful ( an education). Stay focused.

Kids!

I can't believe there was a time when I was SO CLUELESS.

And the funny thing is... this questioner has NO IDEA how BAD they look.

To an 8th grader... this behavior and outlook is COOL.

How embarrassing this will be... if they could read this, in 10 years when their on public assistance. OR if they get it... and are not.

Get used to it, things aren't going to change. What you need to do is organize your time more effectively. Create a schedule which includes everything you need to do, with time set aside to relax because everyone needs to take breaks, then STICK TO IT!
