Simple. Some insurance plans will cover acupuncture treatments, but only if you are referred to an acupuncturist by your primary health care professional. It works the same way as referral to any other specialist.

Because serious ailments (cancer/aids etc)cannot be cured by acupuncture.So you must consult a professsional and ensure that there is no serious ailment requiring immediate attention/surgery
