It seems such a common practice but it seems a little cruel to me - does it lead to identity issues later on?

I don't think it is a good idea to have rhyming names based soley on the fact that I have a hard time hearing so if something sounds like my name I'm likely to answer. Besides, would you like to have a sibling whose name is similar to yours? Identical twins have a hard enough time finding their own identites, make it easier by naming them something different. If you must do something similar, give them names that start with the same letter. (ex: Andrea and Allison)

You should not give your twins rhyming names. They just look similar, but they are two different persons. Giving them similar names would not maybe lead to identity issues and it is maybe cute when they are little, but later? The two of them are connected already giving them rhyming names is really not necessary.

We are having twins and we refuse to give cutsey names. Twins already lose a sense of individuality. We are going with Jacob Timothy, Daniel Braddock for boys and Simone Elizabeth, Josie Louise for girls. We found first names we liked and used family names for the middle.

Unless you're trying to give the kids the idea that they are each only half a person because they're twins, then no, it's not a good idea -- each should be encouraged to form her/his own individual identity. That begins with individual names.

I don't think ther'll be any identity issues but it could be pretty hard on the mom when sh's trying to call one of the kids and it turns into a tounge twister. My mom made sure that none of us kids have similar names so she wouldn't get words mixed up.

Identity issues due to rhyming names? "Cruelty"?
Are you kidding?
I'm a twin and although our parents chose the "A,B" route, I know many twins with rhyming names, and to them, it means nothing except people will inevitably complement their names telling them how clever or nice they are.
From comic sans to this... what a random thought process.

If you treat the twins as individuals, there should be no issues in the future. But keep in mind that ALL names are subject to criticism, and if you choose names like Maisy and Daisy it may be exasperated!

Good luck!

Yeah that's pretty cruel, the kids could be teased at school and that's no fun. I knew someone with twin girls and they were called Penny and Jenny. It was pretty funny, but not for the kids.

Yeah, don't do that whole rhyming names. Just maybe give them names that start with the same letter or something like that.

It's only cruel if its like Bipsy and Dipsy or some thing stupid like that. I think starting with just the same letter is enough though.
