I'm planning a trip to DC with my family and I have a schedule of the normal things to do in DC like all the monuments all the museums, I just want to know if there are any other cool things to do that alot of people don;t know about. by the way it needs to be family friendly all my kids are under 6.

the air and space museum has a hangar at dulles int. airport in chantilly, va. that contains the space shuttle, concorde, blackbird, the enola gay b-29, the winnie mae of aviator wiley post, amelia earhart's jumpsuit, and many other aircraft and artifacts. on the mall, check out the department of commerce's aquarium exhibit in the basement of the building.

you could visit your family. we aren't too far away.
if this isn't you, what do your kids like to do? you are really close to the beach if they've never been or not been there in a while.
archiology digging in fredericksburg or culpeper. also all kinds of civil war memorials and stuff ( ALL kinds. i'm not 'into' that kind of stuff, but it's all here ) .
if this is your first visit to d.c. definately take a helocopter ride over the city. it is absolutely amazing!

depends on when you are coming to the area. there are always weekend things like a taste-off, garden shows, festivals; and things like this
baltimore's inner harbour. went for my 21 b'day. i can't wait to go back.

Head across to old town Alexandria. If you drive the George Washington Mem Parkway, it takes you straight into town from the interstates.

Stay with the tourist herd for the sake of safety especially with young children. I've travelled abit & was most nervous in DC. Some of the guys asking for money are real persistent. I don't want to put you off as its a nice city & I know it doesn't make it fun only doing the tourist attractions but in DC there really is safety in numbers

the natural history musuem has a display of bugs and other creatures alive the children will love it,,,,
