First and foremost if your 18 years old, your not really a boy, your a young adult, and secondly, going to the gym while studying Martial Arts is a very good thing. Training both your mind and body will help you throughout the rest of your life. What I'm saying is most Martial Arts classes are only 1 to 2 hour's long, so your Instructor only has 15 -30 minutes to "warm-up" the class before exercising. So, although you are learning MA, your not getting a good carido work-out.

I don't know what you mean by "doing gym"... which could, in my mind, mean this:

1. Have sex with the whole gym class/students/members/employees

2. Bone some guy named Jim that you mispelled GYM

...either way, go for the karate.

Sure, you are the ideal person for learning martial arts. I have been doing martial arts and gym work out together for more than two decades. I feel more robustic than my counter parts in sparring.

You can see, your puches, kicks and blocks will be more superior than the fellows who only do martial arts.

So, do not worry you can learn martial arts in all respects.

duh, the better shape you are in while doing martial arts the faster and more powerful your moves are. I found that after i started running i was able to practice longer and i improved in sparring.
