I believe that if you disclose your invention to the public you must submit a patent application within one year, or lose it. Make a fairly clear (pen & ink) sketch of the idea and ask a disinterested (non-relative) person who can understand it to sign and date the sketch to establish your priority (were you the first inventor?). Seek the help of a pattent attorney who will have a patent search conducted to avoid infringement and will prepare the patent application in correct form including necessary diagrams and claims. The attorney may allow you one free consultation to accept your case and should estimate typical costs. Study the patent process yourself. Remember that even a great invention must earn back more that the cost of the patent application to justify submittal and the patent only helps you defend it from infringers. Best of luck!

First off make some technical drawings and a crief description of its function and purpose. Post these documents recorded delivery to yourself and do not open them; deposit them with a solicitor or a bank. This will cover you initially if someone tries to stael your idea.
Next get in touch with a patent lawyer. These people specialise in putting together and wording patent proposals. Your idea is only as safe as the words used in the patent description. Patant lawyers have experience in using the best terms to minimise the chance of sonemeone getting around your patent.
When your idea is submitted to the patent office it will take a couple of months without it being successfully contested for it to be accepted. If it is the patent will only be effective in the country in which it was registered; you may have to patent it in any country you feel there is a market

What you need to do is simple. Put your idea into action. Sometimes you may need to involve people who are like minded but most of the time if your idea is good, you need the to take the step of faith and start. The greatest master plan can not be compared to the minutest of its actualization.

If you need money, sell it to people who would buy it at a good price, if you dont need money, still sell it and give the money to your favorite charity.
