My cat, who is 15 or 16 years old, started vomiting blood today (she was fine yesterday). The vomiting seems to have stopped or slowed, but she is looking very bad and isn't eating or even moving.

She also seems to be seeking a place where she can be alone.

I have no money to take her to the vet for extended tests and treatments. Should I consider putting her down so that she won't be suffering anymore? What are some causes of the symptoms I mentioned above?

Keep your financial opinions to yourself. You don't know my situation.

Whenever I call a vet and explain the situation, I'm told the same thing: "We can't help you, we don't have payment options. Call the SPCA."

I called the SPCA several times, but I'm only given an option to leave a message.

She isn't throwing up anymore, but she still looks bad. I hope the SPCA calls back soon.

Vomiting blood is a very, very BAD sign, I'm afraid. To be honest with you, feeling your pain myself, a cat goes off by itself when it is sick when it knows things are not looking well. Cats prefer to pass on alone, away from family. Your kitty is old enough that you may want to consider putting her to sleep for her own good. 15 or 16 is a good age for cats, most living about that old or often times younger, and extending her life might do more harm than good. Good luck to you and sorry to hear!
Please note you should get a vet's recommendation.

Since you'll need to take her to the vet to be put down, you could take her to the vet for a consultation to find out if putting her down is the best thing for her. I don't know what it signals, but I would agree that vomiting blood is a very bad thing. If she seems in pain, yes, take her to the vet to be euthanized.

There is no reason to take her down, she can get well. It doesn't mean she will need expensive treatment. Go to a vet and he'll tell you what's wrong and what to do, she might need a medication. In any case, lack of money is not a reason to kill an animal. You are responsible for her, so if she needs treatment to get well, she must have it!

Well since you cannot afford a 35.00 vet visit I would take her to the vet and leave her there. Once they fix her up they will find a home for her.
But you need to take her NOW!

i'm really sorry that yr cat is ill, but she really really needs to go to the vet
ok... this is a trick... CALL yr vet and ask him/her through the phone... he/she will answer yr questions immediately, since it's an emergency call... i called a couple of times and it really saves unnecessary consultation fees... most vets in my place (malaysia) give their cellphone number as their emergency hotline.... hopefully yr vet does that too!

Take her to the vet immediately. Let them see her and then worry about money later. You have to do this for her. If the vet agrees to put her down then do it. or else try to save her by all means. PLEASE!!!!!! OH God please!!!!!!!!!! Think of her as your daughter, help her!!!!

if u can't reach anyone who can help you, you should try to take care of it yourself! - stay by it's side, pet it, comfort it, try to feed it, and try to look in it's throat! you might be able to find something wrong with the throat. - that's all i can say...i wish you and your cat luck!! :)
