By a hepa filter vacuum cleaner. Change the furnace filter regularly. Plastic cover for mattress prevents dust mites. There are also vent filters for the room vents. Avoid large drapes and curtains. Vent the air with a fan often and if you are really serious..buy one of those ionic air purifiers. This all worked to make my house more comfortable for my daughter.

Have hardwood floors and tile kitchen/bathroom floors. Carpets are terrible if you have severe allergies. Also, look into purchasing a good room aircleaner. Oreck sells a very good model that is recommended by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.
