Sometimes the pain when you have them tightened and first start wearing them can be a little painful (kind of like a throbbing, aching feeling), but most over-the-counter pain relievers help. Overall, no they don't hurt. It's worth it in the end :)

You should only have pain for the first few days each time you see the Orthodontist. The Orthodontist can give you a prescription for a mouthwash that helps numb the pain. You can also take Tylenol for the first few days. The pain (and it isn't something that is so awful that you can't put up with it) is worth it because you will have a beautiful smile when the braces come off. Make sure you do everything the Orthodontist tells you to do, no matter how much you don't feel like doing it. That way, you won't have them on longer than you need to.

In short, yes.

They're appying pressure to your jaw. When you apply pressure continously, it hurts. Generally, the pain subsides enough to be able to eat normally within a few days. Panadol or Nurofen should help. I found that when I first got my braces on or tightened, I could only eat soft foods e.g. soft bread, yoghurt, banana, jelly & icecream but after a day or two I was able to chew again without it hurting too much.

Yes it hurts, but it is worth it!

Yes, they are very uncomfortable at first but you'll get used to them. Also, they hurt the most when they tighten them. But it's worth the pain because in the teeth your teeth will be beautiful.

A little uncomfortable at first, then you get used to it. Then they only hurt when you get hit in the mouth.
