i'd like my friend to get ordained and marry me and my lady, i want to know if this will be legal and what places are legal to perform these ceremonies. we are not religious and we think the whole married abroad thing has been done to death, so we are looking for something different.

It depends which country you live in. Speaking for UK law, such a marriage alone would not be a legally binding contract. You may have this ceremony in addition to a registry office wedding. You need to notify the registrar in advance and in person and you need to book an appointment for the wedding.

It will depend on which state you live in. Generally, you need a marriage license, a couple witnesses, and an officiant that is recognized by the state. That last part is what you're asking about, I suspect, and there is no universal answer. Usually, a minister of any legitimate faith is considered official. Whether a friend who's gotten "ordained" through (presumably) a web or mail order church will depend on local regulations.

As long as they get ordained and have something to prove it, its legal. But don't forget all the courthouse stuff, like blood teats or paperwork. And after the wedding you have so much time to file a copy of the wedding document at the courthouse. I'd suggest calling them to make sure you get all the legalities taken care of.

my fiance has been asked to marry our friends sense they are not religious but spiritual. my fiance searched on line and got ordained through a church in California that is a place where the 'Beatles' were ordained, and other famous people. we got the idea from the t.v. show 'friends'. Joey on there got ordained on-line to marry Chandler and Monica. ITS ALL LEGAL IN THE U.S. good luck.
