There's an old saying: There's no such thing as a free lunch. And that staying hold's true today.
Unfortunately photography equipment (especially digital) is rather pricey, but it is well worth the investment. I wouldn't trust a free studio lighting setup on my life. There is a reason it's free and the reason isn't because of it's great quality. It's because it's a piece of junk.
Save some money up to invest in some low end or used equipment. Every hobby has a price (unless of course, it's collecting sticks from your back yard).

A "recycling" website, where everyone exchanges, donates, or receives items that are no longer needed by one but are useful to another. All within your local area. It's brilliant. Goodluck.

freecycle is a good resource for sure. also check craigslist org for more options.
