If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent him
Voltaire
I believe God is the term used to explain the part that man cannot understand
If I telll you that Sun is a GOD you may laugh at me...because you know that it is astar with nuclear reactions taking place, releasing large amount of energy,...
But the Ancient Egyptians for example thought that it was a God, called Ra.
Superpower exists and we sometimes refer to it as a person....an imaginary thing...God

You must understand the distinction between invention and revelation. Invention, by a man or a woman, is an endeavour that leads to the creation of an object or an idea. Revelation, in the context of religion, is a collection of devine doctrines fostered by prophets of God. Allah , the God of Muslims, is also the God of Christians and Jews. No Muslim discards the Christian God. I have covered this subject in great details in my book "Islam Under the Microscope" which is in print and will be available world wide shortly. Religion attempts to explain the spiritual to people who have not had personal experiences with it. It was also a way to revere the ancestors. It could start with a kick-*** chief who all the tribe loved and adored. He died and the people told their children about how great he was and had ceremonies to his honor and to petition his spirit to help them when the time comes for them to die. Fast-forward a couple hundred, maybe less, years and you have a religion. Middle eastern theologies, except Judaism, are intent upon global conquest. Instead of having a good relationship with the chief it is more important to bring others to recognize and rever him. So Christianity and Islam have histories of destroying the temples, statues, and writings of faiths that were not a part of their One True Path. Much in the same way the Communist Chinese tried to destroy their earlier culture at the time of the Revolution. I think it's all crap. I know that the human spirit is universal. Any god or goddess you decide to adore and pray to is the same as praying to God or Allah, in my opinion. Man made the gods, no gods existed before man was around to give them form and concept.

Religion was not "invented".
It came about slowly from people who sought to give meaning to the world. The next person added a story or two, and the next person after that - all the way to present day. It's still evolving right under our noses, it's just moving so slowly.

Allah is the God of Adam and Eve, God of Abraham and Moses, God of Muhammad and all of creation. And btw, Arab christians pray to Allah (Allah in arabic is God).
To those that do not believe in the existence of God, suppose for a moment that God does exist. Where would u look to prove it, and how would you prove His existence. Thing is, people that don't believe in God don't want to believe in Him, because believing would limit their choices in life. Just so that you know, God exists no matter what u believe.

I sometimes think that it may have been. It's similar to the placebo effect in patients recieving a sugar pill, because they think that something they are taking will help them, they start to get better as they have been given hope. The same goes for religion (maybe). People have been given something to look to when they are feeling down. They believe in it so much that it helps them through the rough patches in life. Maybe it isn't such a bad thing being religious. So long as you don't push your beliefs onto others.

Religions are man made. They should be phased out! I only believe in the Kingdom of God because it's sent by God.

most religions stem from a day waaaaaaaaay before the Internet and TV. what else did they have to think about? might as well sucker them into thinking some body's watching them and to be on their best behavior. back then they didn't know any better. but knowing what we know today about the world, it's past, and it's (scientific) future...why bother clouding the mind with such gibberish.
so my answer is...yes.
