the answer depends on if the school is accredited. Accredited is based on the performance and curriculum of the school the is reviewed by the state.

This goes for both College and k-12.

This is an issue that also surrounds the federal school voucher program proposed by the Government awhile back.

As well as being accredited, check to see if the institution is a part of some school system or is privately owned. Be careful for schools that are "for profit", as they may be accredited, but in real life, their diplomas aren't worth much. Technical colleges are usually a money making scheme for the owners.
