Luk 8:11 And the parable is this: The seed is the Word of God.
Luk 8:12 Those by the roadside are the ones who hear; then the Devil comes and takes the Word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.
Luk 8:13 Those on the rock are the ones who, when they hear, receive the Word with joy. And these have no root, who for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
Luk 8:14 And those which fell among thorns are the ones who, when they have heard, go forth and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of life, and do not bear to maturity.
Luk 8:15 But those on the good ground are the ones who, in an honest and good heart, having heard the Word, keep it and bring forth fruit with patience.

I think for some people you answered your own question:
"I have seen darkness, I've seen only hurt an pain in a world" for some people this pain and darkness comes in spite of believing in God. Does it help. Not really, because Man perpetrates pain and darkness on his fellow Man, some in the name of God some for their own gain. If there was a God would He intervene and stop us from hurting our fellow Man? We would be naive to believe so.
We should not need some patriarchal or matriarchal figure to stand over us dictating terms of behaviour seeing as we have done so badly with that situation in the past. Once we can truly look each other in the eyes and face who we are without fear and prejudice of difference that is when we learn to love ourselves and each other. You say there is a God that loves us, so what, what's more important, saying, oh, there might be a God who loves us in heaven but lift a finger to help, or trying to make a difference ourselves to our world?
Why do people refuse? Don't take it so personally, yours is not the only truth being touted, we are refusing others as well.

Actually, the probelm of evil's existence can still be blamed upon God because he did create all things. A classic riddle in Philosophy actually. If he created us, and as the Bible claims we created evil with our fall into sin, the blame is still upon God because he created us. The devil actually "chose sin" before God made humankind according to the bible, and with that God created the catalyst that led man into sin. All God's fault, but yet xtians like to cower from reasoning and accept the bible's simplistic false myths about how man became "evil".
Also, it is a bit ironic to me that in your post you ask how can people not believe in a good God when they are surrounded in pain and misery? Really now.......didn't you just answer your own question?
Not only that, but the fact that bad things happen does not mean that a higher power exists or that people should believe in one. Bad things happen for complicated reasons, but that does not mean people have to retreat into fantasy land where a perfect God loves them. We have no proof of a higher power anyway. The fact that we exist is not proof enough by a long shot and the fact that we are surrounded by so many bad things does not mean that all must seek God in refuge. Many do that, but it is for the weak of character and reason ability. Run to your religion. It shall protect you from reality. Some people aren't so stupid.

Because people see what's happening and limit themselves to that, but it is much better to strive for what is the best possible, and not accept the inferior reality.
Only the strength of consciously choosing, and acting on, the best, most generous, forgiving, and powerfully helpful person you are can ever give people the motivation of their God given will to Be. Anything less is the tenuous, ever abiding death.
All people are made to have perfect versions of themselves manifest, and nothing imperfect can escape the pains of dying the decay of passing times and chances.

Well, that is your personal experience. My experience is "what you put into life, you get out of it".
To which God are you referring to? The Old Test God does NOT love people. He's a war-like God that enjoys sending his own people out to take over other nations. The God of the New Test? Claims he's the same God as the one in the Old Test. Something fishy here, I don't trust it.

Hello, you know believe is nice but its not enough, even the devil knows there is A God, he's seen Him, lets re word that to say Be-Living, For God so loved The World that is we be-live in Him we will not perish... and if We are be-living in Him we will love Him enough to keep His commandments, If we do not love Him enough to do that we will NOT love Him enough to be there, believe is not worth anything until or unless it is combined with action, believe is A action word.

Apparently, there has not been any documented worldwide act of divinity since the Great Flood, if you can consider that an act of Divinity. Such an act in these times would surely open up plenty of eyes. Regardless of what the Bible says, people must see with their own eyes before they'll believe anything,

Because they're not born again and therefore have no good thing in them, just like me and you if we are without God. Anyone in and of themself is the enemy of God. God is the only one truly good, rightous, perfect, loving, graceful, merciful.. etc. People who are without him do not understand this and cannot be with God until they accept the truth through their free will and accept that Jesus Christ is the son of God who died for the worlds sins to defeat evil and allow as through no works of our own to get to heaven.

Sorry but the scientific explanation for evolution is more believable than a man no one has ever seen and only read about. I hope I am wrong but will just have to wait and see.

its hard to belive in something that you have never seen or comunicated with. Also a lot of people think that god is just a illusion created by man to give purpose to life, god gives us hope of life after death, when you think about it what do men fear the most, DEATH.
I do beleive in god i just look at things from all angles
