Nope... they have to buy their own stuff (at least where my husband's stationed). I believe beer is illegal there, but anything can be bought on the black market.

Some companies do. A lot of times soldiers will write to companies and say how much they miss such and such product and they're deployed and can't get it, and the company will send stuff to them. They're not allowed alcoholic beverages on duty, but other things are sometimes provided. Here's a fun fact: Starbucks wrote a response to the Marines saying that they didn't support the war so they weren't going to send anything to the troops who fight it. (Hubby has a friend who was there.)

I work with soliciting donations from large companies... there are many companies that would happy to supply deployed soldiers and units with necessary items... and a few not so needed items... the best thing to do is to call and ask to speak to someone in their donation and grants area... explain the situation and see what they wii do.

You'll never know unless you ask. As a soldier in my company, myself and a few others asked for much needed supplies and most arrived free, other items were marked at a considerably lower price. We never asked for anything free, we just asked for help and made sure the company knew what it was used for, why we needed and most importantly, they got letters from us thanking them wholeheartedly for their help.

some do to "support the troops" and in turn build brand loyalty

Some provide new equipment to soldiers for testing and testimonials

But most stuff is paid for by the soldier or the government.

If you are serving in the military in Iraq, and you want a Pepsi or a bud, you have to buy it, just like when you are at home.

Its America for crying out loud. This country is ruled by the dollar. I am sure they have to pay.
