It seems to have to be either blissful or agonizing. Why doesn't someone make up a religion that promises more of the same (even-steven).

Well that's kind of how the Ancient Greeks saw it (and other religions that just believed in one afterlife - not 2). Hades is just the land of the dead - some are being punished, but others just chill.

BECAUSE IT WON'T BE JUST 'EVEN-STEVEN' AFTER THIS LIFE!!

Most People try, at least, to deal with and understand reality!
All decisions are either right or wrong [That's why the Binary counting concept of a simple 'On or Off' is so successful in making computers do things.

Jesus said, "Let all the answers be 'Yeah Yeah!' or "Nay! Nay".

You will either join Satan for 1000 years in the Millenium, or you won't!
You certainly can't have one leg in his pit of Unquenchable fire and pitiless brimstone and one leg or arm in the Bliss and Purity of Heaven!
Can You??

You see, the talk some give of life being 'shades of grey' is just not real.
Either every decision [especially moral] is right or it is not.
If you do not learn that here quickly, you certainly will - come it being perhaps, too late!!

BY the Way, to answer the mailing above mine, i am a "Mormon".

You will note I only mentioned 1000 years, because those that do not repent must pay the price even as Christ our Saviour paid the excritiating price for all, BEFORE they can be raised more specifically, "according to their works" whether they be good or bad, or 'Mediocre', if there be such a thing.
But basically, eventually, all will be raised according to precise effort and obedience put in.
So, if one kick only 2 goals, his reward shall be accordingly.
If he try sufficiently to kick 6, so shall be his glory.

Mediocrity would be bliss compared to the utter perversion of some thoughts, so heaven and hell are quite subjective, relative to the range of what's been known.

There are plenty of miserable people striving for the religion of mediocrity because they have no hope for more... I'd rather see all attain the best the can receive, so teaching about the best i know is the best I can do to help them.

The Nature of Life is creative.

The Nature of Life is freedom.

Ego (human) perceives "blissful" or "agonizing" as balance, but it is not balance.

Your answers are not found on a screen, but inside you. You can find direction here, but the truth thrives within every atom of your physicality, and in the whole of what you really are.

darksage is on to something...
Christians, honestly, know what they can expect in the afterlife. A life of obedience to Christ's will through a close daily walk with Him will lead to a wonderful afterlife of being close in proximity to His glory and still not consumed by it. However, this lifestyle is very challenging to maintain here on earth where we are so tempted to ignore Christ very real presence.
If we did a little personal inventory of our lives I think we will be extremely honored to get anywhere near our Savior in the next life.
God bless!
This is an Orthodox Christian response.

The only place in the Bible where the Paraclete was called the Holy Spirit is in John 14:26 "But the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you". What has the Holy Spirit brought or taught for the last 2000 years?

Someone did.

His name is Joseph Smith and he invented one of the more successful Christian cults.

Mormons have a far different idea of heaven and hell than do all the others, and it's far more logical if one needs to believe in an "after life."

I suppose that's why the other cults (Catholic, Baptist, etc.) are so jealous. Mormons are far more creative than they are.
