it does not hurt to get a filling at all. if it hurts bad enough when you get there, you will want them to stick you with the needle to numb it. then about 5 minutes later you are pain free and you will kick yourself in the butt for worrying about it. i am a severe dental phobic and i hate going but i know i have to and there is nothing i can do about it. i wish i was getting a filling, cuz i have to go get all my wisdom teeth CUT out. im scared to death too. dont feel bad, we're in it together. lol

It doesn't feel great, but if you ever get a cavity that goes to the point of a nerve exposure, now THAT hurts! Fillings are not at all the worst things in the world, especially since dentists use anesthesia. Having a filling done means a little discomfort now to avoid serious pain later.

As the people have said before, the worst part is generally the shots to numb your teeth before the process begins. However, for those with sensitive teeth, like myself, the shot may not numb your tooth (or teeth) as much as you would like and it can become painful. I once opted (out of sheer stupidity...I was trying to be "manly") NOT to receive a numbing shot and the pain was pretty horrible. Never chosen that option since.

As everyone has said, the injection is the only pain you'll have to experience. Once you go numb, you won't feel any pain. The injection is quite bearable, so don't worry about it!

Your mouth will be numb for quite some time afterwards, which will be annoying. Don't plan to eat anything straight after!

its completely normal to be a little apprehensive about going to the dentist to get a filling. i will tell you my experience is, yes the needle that they give you the novicane with will be uncomfortable. its not painful, but it is uncomfortable.the smell of the drilling isnt so great either. but once the novicane kicks in, you wont feel anything. let them know when you arrive that you are a little worried. you are not the first one, so they may have some techniques that will help with anxiety.

It shouldn't. I always found the shot to numb the gums etc to be a bit more painful, but anymore they apply a topical numbing and then the shot. You really shouldn't feel anything and if you do, let the dentist know asap.

yes but they numb your teeth up with a novacain shot, that hurts more than the filling, and it may numb up part of your lip/cheek and tongue... I hate the dentist. But you cant hide from it. Good luck... you will be fine!!!

The needle is the worst part but after that, you won't feel much. I would think a growing cavity would hurt much worse if you don't take care of it as soon as possible. Good luck.

In most cases, no. It might be uncomfortable, but not painful. Talk to your dentist and let him know you are concerned about this. Sometimes they can give you a gas or medication to help calm you. Depends on the situation.

The numbing of your mouth with a local anesthetic is the only part that should be of much concern and it is a very small pinch.
