1. It is unlikely to be retroactive.
2. Even if it were retroactive it would have provisions letting those here legally still have citizen children according to the terms of whatever law is passed, which would cover most of the population. [Actually, I don't think they could take away citizenship already confered. This would ONLY apply if the Supreme Court came down saying they weren't citizens to begin with, which is not even in the works in any case I am aware of.]
3. So many people are opposed to a constitutional amendment being put in place based on high feeling (bad law gets made that way) that I don't think a Constitutional amendment would occur. That leaves either a 'fake attempt' at an amendment like the recent 'attempt' at banning gay marriage when everyone with sense knew the votes weren't there. However, what is more doable is to not say one way or the other if those born here of illegals are citizens (this has been left open by the Supreme Court). All that would have to be done is to change immigration law preferences to say those born here only have reunification preferences to bring in family if they had at least one unconditional permanent legal resident or citizen parent at the time of their birth. That would be a going forward preference policy.

Lets get this straight. Some want to eliminate the right of children born here with ILLEGAL parents to gain citizenship. That would leave all of us who's parents were here LEGALLY as citizens. Why is it so hard to understand the definition of LEGAL versus ILLEGAL on every single question?

I wouldn't worry about that if I was you...the US won't send its United States citizens to another country.I think they were talking about all the under age children of illegal immigrants who would be left here if their parents were deported. They can't take away your citizenship and your birthcertificate. If they did, they'd have to take away mine too!And I'm a white american.I believe if you are born here then you are an American no matter what your race. Those ppl are just ignorant who think different.

That would only apply if neither parent were a US citizen. If at least one parent was a US citizen, then the child would also be a US citizen. This would only take effect at the time the law were enacted, not before. Would not affect previous births.

Yes, we would deport all US born americans, you idiot.
Is anyone home???
It would only end it for women here illegally.
You don't have a right to give birth on our shores and become an instant citizen, any more than I have a right to give birth in your home and instantly own a piece of your house.

When people use the birth of a child as nothing more than a way to gain access to social services, I would reevaluate their commitment to parenthood. Usually giving birth is not such a selfish act. America is beginning to see thru the farce of the anchor baby syndrome.

do you know what the grandfather clause is? apparently not. look it up. while your looking things up, look up Habeas Corpus.
i know you dont' know these words, they teach them in AMERICAN schools, not poverty mexican schools.
i'll just tell you. grandfather clause means that if you were doing something or have something, new laws will not affect you. like the seatbelt law, all cars have to have seatbelts, except the old old cars that didn't come with them. they are grandfathered in.
habeas corpus means that if you do something, then they make it illegal, you cannot be charged for doing it before the law was made. like dr. death. he wasn't charged with all those assisted suicides before the law was made, but after the law was made, he could be charged.
maybe you should go back to school? get your ged? maybe? no?

I have to admit that askthepizzagu has a good point. If I had a child in your house or anywhere like Wal-Mart does that give me the right to stay and my parents there forever? Doesn't make sense that having a baby somewhere entitles you something that wasn't yours to begin with.

i think they are only referring to people who are not here legally.
in other words if your not here legally then your kids would no be allow to be citizens. but that is not a law yet.
