I am also on Effexor, for Post-partum deppression and I know this is somewhat an appetite suppresant but I was always very thin. Switching meds is NOT an option as I have been on 4 different kinds already and this one actually helps.

Eat more often, and eat the "stick to your ribs" foods. There's a reason all those corn-fed boys in the Midwest look corn-fed, and it's the idea that a chicken fried steak, corn, mashed taters & gravy and a dinner roll is a healthy dinner.

Really, instead of three big meals, break it down into five or six smaller ones. Chances are you aren't into eating big meals anyway with the effexor killing your appetite.

I'll tell you how my grandmother put on weight really fast, though.

Get yourself some ice cream and some ensure, and mix half a scoop with half a can of ensure and eat that a couple of times a day. Packed the pounds on her gangbusters... and she loved eating it.

P.S.-- You shouldn't be so down on yourself. It's not like you're intentionally trying to make yourself look unattractive. Tell your husband to get back to you after he gestates a whole other human, squeezes it out of him, and then has it latch onto him for a couple of months literally sucking all the nutrients out of his body. Until then he needs to say "thanks for not pulling my bottom lip over my head while you were crying and screaming, and pushing our child out of your body".

Firs of all you do not get muscles like men. The sole reason is genetics, the hormonal difference between men and women.

Regarding gaining weight. You have to undergo a well planned work out system which emphasis more on resistance training.

Simultaneously, you have to eat well. Split yuor meals and eat. Ensure that you are eating protiein rich food. You can depend on protein supplements if you are really serious into the work out and gaining weight.

Have a nice day.

Seriously, first check with you doctor and have him check your metabolism out to see if everythings working properly, and you don't have an abnormality of some kind. Then see if he can recommend a good dietitian to workup an eating regimen that will help you gain the weight you say you need.

I ran a calculation using your info on two different sites and came up with this info.

Body Mass Index Calculator - Your score is 18.47

Underweight BMI <18.5
Normal weight BMI 18.5-24.9

Limitations of the BMI:
The BMI measurement is a reliable indicator of your total body fat. The score you get is valid for most people over age 18 with the following exceptions:

It may overestimate body fat in athletes and those people with a muscular build

It may underestimate body fat in older people and others who have lost muscle

---------------------------

Peoples Choice Ideal Weight: 104 lbs.

'This shows the average weight that other people of your Age, Height, Weight and Gender would describe as their ideal weight.'

'Women tend to imagine their ideal weight is unrealistically low, so they diet unnecessarily. Men tend to allow their ideal weight to be higher than medically recommended. Men and Women should learn from each other.'

Medical Recommendation: 104 - 137 lbs

'This recommendation is based on a Body Mass Index (BMI) range of 19-25. Your current Body Mass Index is 18.5 kg/m2'

'Medical evidence suggests that all body weights within this range are reasonably equally healthy (for people of your height). Outside this range, health risks may occur.'

http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm

After looking at this, it looks like your a tad underweight. I don't think you have that far to go to get back into the normal range.

So go enjoy your XL pizza and bucket sized ice cream girl. lol

I have the exact same problem...you have to eat 3 big meals a day and 3 snacks in between. so, you're eating every 2 hours or so. also, eat something loaded with calories before you go to bed.

Well, you seem to excersice a lot. Maybe cut down a bit on the excersise. You proabably just have a REALLY fast metabolism. If it bothers you so much you should probably see a doctor.

Go to your local health food store and ask for amino acid protein powder-it tastes great-just add it to milk and you will gain weight in no time.
