There is nothing wrong with trying to improve your lot in life. But in the words of Ben Harper ' be sure that the fortune you seek is the fortune you need'.

Don't worship money or power or knowledge or religion. Strive for a healthy spirit.

because of our mind. our mind tends to jump and for it "grass is always greener on the other side of the fence". When we are rich we want to be richer; when we are successful we want more success. When we are happy, we are bored and we want more happiness.
But as we desire for more, and as we become devoid of something that we had such as like happiness, unconditional love, money, or success, it is then we realize that we need to be contented with what we have.

Our mind has already decided that our current state is not enough, though it is definitely enough. Our mind dwells either in the past or in the future but never in the moment!
Today you have a family and can afford your family well with food, education and excellent standard of living. Assuming the job/pay is permanent,Will you remain so forever? maybe, maybe not. The reason could be purely due to external factors or the mind or a combination of both. Your husband might desire, if i can afford to make my kid study in Harvard everything will be alright. Or if we can afford to have 7 babies, i will be the happiest mom. Or if i can have a swim pool in the backyard my life is set....
say you satisfy all these, will you still be in your job?

Only when our mind is identified with our being then it is at peace, and then we realize that what we have is enough to be happy Now, the given moment. we dont need more and more....
think about it- what if you loose what you already have and you have no room to aspire for more?

How much ever good life we have, there is always a gap, gap remains till u do not find the truth of who u r. So we wish to have a better life all the time, till we re+discover our SELF. That is the liberation and in that moment we cease to exist and the oneness emerges. The oneness with the father, mother, where my father, mother and me are one, this Re+union is what we are here for. This is the game called life. Experience your SELF.

What's your best!
Being a King or a Queen.
Compare them with all other individuals.
Being a Pope.
Being a sick or poor person!
No King wish to be poor, but a sick person dreams of a better life.

This is why people in the world are never happy...
they are never satisfied and they always want something better...
They always crave and yearn for something everyday rather than being satisfied with what they have....
I agree that if we didnt have this drive for new things, we would never have progressed, but this drive is not necessary for every thing....
It ends up making us feel empty inside...
This is Human Nature....

it's because we humans are never satisfiy with everything that we have. we always wants sumthing more or better than what we have now.we always take for granted for what we had and when we lose it, there's no turning back. That's why we should cherish and thankful for what we have now rather than wishing something else better.

I think this is how we push ourselves and move forward. If you didn't want more and were complacent, I think cars would go 20mph and the economy would be flat....we need to drive ourselves and we do.
