Disneyland runs promotions for different times of the year. I believe they currently have a free night. Their promotions aren't as good as Disney Worlds, and they have fewer onsite hotels which are more costly.
My suggestion would be to contact a travel agent to help you with the booking. They will know the most economical way for you and your party to go. The onsite resorts are pretty costly and even staying at the lowest cost resort, Paradise Pier, you are still probably going to spend more than staying at one of the superior or suite hotels offsite Disney property. I like staying on site, I just think it makes things easier, but if you are looking at ways to save money, staying off site will probably be your best option. There are some nice suites offsite as well, since you have a larger party, but remember they are usually a lot further away, usually a few miles.
I'm not sure what you are pricing now, so I can't be of much help there. But if you are trying to get everyone in one room, you may be better off in two rooms.

Try also mousesavers.com. They have great ideas and links to discounts for the Disneyland area.
You can also try costco. They specialize in Disneyland Ca. The costco here has 4 day passes for $119. That's a great deal.
Hotels surrounding the Anaheim area is very close to the park. Mousesavers has a great rate on Howard Johnson's, and you can also go to www.tripadvisor.com to see which hotels are inexpensive, but aren't roach motels either.

Try Disney's Good Neighbor Hotels if you're looking for rooms. Tickets are harder to find at discounts. Absolutely do not buy them from Ebay, those are usually fakes. Check with friends who belong to unions, Costco, or AAA. Sometimes those organizations buy tickets in bulk and offer them to members at discounts.
