had a fall as a kid and broke my front incisor. It turned black as the nerve went dead and later on as a teenager had a root canal done and got a crown fixed. The first crown lasted me for 5 years. Had to get it removed coz the root canal had to be redone. the crown I got fixed after that has a metal on the back side and enamel only on the front. That has lasted me for the last 15 years without any hassles. I do have to get it redone now because the enamel has turned yellow with the passage of time.

Go for crowns if you really want to. A suggestion though:

Check out the link I have given, maybe some other procedure could be more beneficial for you than a crown.

good luck

I have two crowns, on molars (back of mouth) and I have no complaints. Both are enamel colored so they blend in quite well and I haven't had any trouble. Nothing lasts forever (at least not with dental) so I'd recommend the crown and a good, long lasting option. You may need to have it replaced some day - but overall, it lasts and you'll not notice it at all. Just seems like any other tooth. There are advancements made all the time - by the time you may need a new crown, there will be some new and gorgeous replacement for it. Good luck. :-)

I have a crown that initially was done improperly. The end result was a lot of pain! Eventually, I had the crown redone and now I am pleased with it functionally as well as as esthetically! Based on my experience I would suggest that you research the credentials of the dentist you choose to perform the service to avoid any problems. I hope this helps and good luck!

I had two crowns for about ten years, they looked nice and natural, much better than the original! After about 9 years they became wobbly, so after I had them cemented back in a few times, I decided to opt for a fixed bridge, a lot more secure and again very natural. Having crowns (or bridges) can instantly make you look and feel much better.Bad teeth are not a good look.Go for it, it,s worth every penny!

if the crown's made of only porcelain (prettier and more real-looking), heavy biting might cause it to fracture. porcelain ones with metal inside lining are much stronger but might look less real.

get a good dentist who does a realistic crown, so it will look as real as possible. if done improperly it will be ugly or irritate your mouth!! and the crown must be fitted in properly or it will not stay for long.

The only time i have ever heard of getting crowns is when the top of the tooth starts to decay.

If it's like fillings it might be temperature sensitive for a couple of weeks.

It's possible for the crowns to fall out or become loose. But the doctor would let you know that and repair it right away. It happens though.

My parents spent a lot of money to buy me one when I was younger. About a month later, it came off and I lost it. They were so pissed.

There really isn't a point to this. Just telling you my story.
