I was cleaning my ears with a cottonswab stick, and the cotton came off in my ear. I'm worried tweasers will introduce bacteria and start an infection, and I hate ear infections. The cotton is in pretty deep, you can't see it in the ear. I'm a little worried. What should I do?

If it is so far in there, that you can't even see it, go to the doctor. He can remove it safely and you won't end up with an ear infection.
Even if you COULD pull it out, you wouldn't be able to get it all. Cotton separates so easily. You would probably leave a lot of fibers in there that could cause an infection.

Sorry about your problem. Bummer.

I'm an RN and I can tell you, I have seen all kinds of things shoved back into the middle ear. My personal favorite. A black eyed pea. No joke.

By the way, the alarmist advice you got above me?
This is not an emergency. It's just cotton. It can't hurt you unless you start poking around in there.

We SHOVE cotton into patients ears for some procedures.
Just call your doctor in the morning. If you called him now, that is what he would say. See me tomorrow.

I had that happen once! Don't panic. Don't use tweasers. All I did was worked it out with my pinkie nail lil' by lil'. When there's a trace of the cotton fiber pulling out, grab hold of it and gently pull it out so it doesn't just come apart in pieces. Don't do the E.R.. You other people have any clue to the cost of an emergency room visit if you don't have insurance?? Not to mention wasting your time and theirs over something silly. If all else fails, walk into a local medical school or nurse school and ask for assistance, they'll help I'm sure. Good luck!

go immediately to an ent specialist, don't take it lightly, an ear is a very delicate part of our body, which we neglect. there was a programme on t.v. the other day, called dr.on line. and the ent surgeon gave a very helpful advice, he said, these ear-buds are straight, whereas inside ear, it's not straight, the cotton bud is also too big, so what we can do is, make our own ear bud, by taking a flexible, clean stick, less cotton, and clean delicately. better still, go to the specialist to show, wax is normal, to prevent small insects from entering our ears, it may fall out on it's own in some people, and in others, the ears need to be washed with a solution, which makes the hardened wax soft, and then flush out. it will damage hearing if we fiddle on our own.

Get to a doctor or emergency room immediately. The cotton could continue to move deeper inside your ear and cause all kinds of problems. Don't try to remove it by yourself because you could damage your eardrum, etc. Good luck!

Doctor. HE'll pull it out. Don't put anything else into that ear, and go get it out.

Do you own a water pic that people use to brush their teeth?
Use that to squirt water in and it should come out by force or
use a syringe to put water in until it comes out
