Not all "super religious" people look down on others. Those who are humble do not. Those who are prideful (read "sinful") do.

But be careful how you define "religious". One way of describing (not defining) the term "religion" is "self improvement". Any "righteousness" which is "achieved" lends itself to pride by the achiever. Just look at how prideful the Pharisees were when interacting with Jesus: they looked down on Jesus so much that they had Him crucified!

However, the Bible teaches that righteousness is not achieved, but rather is "received" when one receives Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. All of us are sinful (and even one sin separates us from God) and none of us are worthy of the free gift of forgiveness and salvation that God provides through His Son.

The Bible says that those who receive God's gift of salvation through their repentance (turning from sin) and faith in Christ as God's way of salvation, have righteousness conferred upon them as a gift which not one of us is worthy to receive. But God has "grace" (giving us something we don't deserve) to provide this undeserved forgiveness and salvation, and then exercises "mercy" (withholding the judgement - the eternal separation from God - that we do deserve) for those who repent and follow Christ.

I think it is an obvious attempt to keep people together by creating a common enemy. Many religious groups use negative tactics such as division and isolation to maintain control over the behaviour of their members. I think this is why religious groups are often defined more by their behaviour than their faith (these two things are mutually exclusive, by the way).
It is easy to feel good about ones-self while being supported in a community that defines other as inferior to you by the superficial judgement of their actioins or inferior just because they aren't on 'your side'. Patriotism is a lot like this....people who swear a place is the best on earth simply because they are from there.

Another blanket generalization. It doesn't take someone who is super religious to look down on anyone. It take someone who wants to elevate themselves to do that.

Those types are in all groups of people, not just the super religious. There's plenty of non-religious people out there who look down on the religious.

In fact, most Christians are very humble, but you guys usually don't see them because you only get worked up about the ones who are acting foolishly instead of the majority who are actually acting like Christ.

IF they really super religious? then they may need to learn another lesson is humble themselves...if not, they still not super yet...BUT surely there is lot people that they think they are holy or spiritual is always look down at others, this is something that really happening.

Maybe this is due to high expectation on self then automatically become some request to other people to follow the same? or due to no prefect world? or "too much faith" issue? anyway, some serious but unsolvable problems ;(

Those people are not true believers in God.They are a religious show! A true believer would not do that. Sometimes "less is more" A man dressed in rags can be far more righteous that the man in a 3 piece suit! The hob knobs looking down on others are "self" righteous

I hate it when people do that. It gives the rest of us who want to exclaim to our brothers and sisters that we are all God's children and He loves all of us the same, a very bad name. God lets the sun shine on the just and the unjust and it rains on the sinners and rightous the same. Bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people. God is no respector of men and no one should make themselves higher than anyone else. In the end, the first will end up the last and the last will be first.

I had a holy roller (H.R.) answer one of my questions via insult because he didn't like my response to his question and then said I should stay out of the Religious questions/answer category.

I guess I didn't realize only "nice, favourable or positive" answers are required.

In this land of free speech, the only ones who seem to be opposed are the religious who want to squash your freedom of speech but want to protect their freedom of religion.

I'm not a religious person and I find religion offensive but I'm not allowed to say....I will defend anyone's right to believe what they believe, but hey, ask me a question about it and I'll give you my answer.

As I said to H.R., if it's too hot in the kitchen it's time for him to leave.

THOSE WHO STAND ON A SHAKY ROPE BRIGDE, GRAB THE ROPES THE HARDEST. There beliefs are so fragile that they look for security through numbers. If more people agree to their religions, the more vindicated they feel. Its a human psyche , if you live in famine you wish to hoard as much food!

These people are not at all "super religeous". They just pretend to be. For if a person become more and more attached to his/her faith, he/she become more and more aware that at the center is NOT themselves but GOD.

Serving God, in the person of his/her neigbors, even giving up ones life for their good.

If they look down at people as inferior to them, then they are wolves in sheep's clothing.
