I can't speak about the ones I don't know, but those I do know are anything but racist. They are good people. They work hard. They love their kids and they don't go looking for trouble. They have a lot of pride but it's well deserved pride. Above all, they love their country; THIS country.

The ones you are talking about are not representative. Before the term La Raza was hijacked by the activists and their political agenda it referred to a group of people who shared a common language and a common culture. No matter if you were indian, Spanish or a mix of the two. The people had a common bond.
Once, La Raza was an inclusive group. Now it's exclusive, meaning it pushes more people away than it embraces. Sad.

Not all, there a lot of good Mexican people, I have many friends that are Hispanic. But they all came here legally. They all tell me they don't agree with La Raza. They want to be Americans, La raza wants to take over America. So don't judge all Mexicans, just watch out for the ones that come here illegally!

Some Hispanics are racist. Some whites are racist. Some Asians are racists. Some blacks are racist.

I'm a white guy living in a largely Hispanic neighborhood. We get along great. Yeah I see some Mexicans driving around with "Brown Pride" bumper stickers. Who cares. The same ones treat me with respect. Relax

Well you really have to "put yourself in their shoes." I'm referring to all races. If you belong to a minority group in the US, you will attempt to belong to your personal group. For example, "la raza" does directly translate to "the race"; but if means "the people." It goes back to Conquistadores, and how they refered to the locals. Another example is how gay people are taking back the word "queer." These terms are not directed against the majority group; but directed in self-reference.
Historically, the most racist group in the world are caucasians. Look up "white privilege" in yahoo. Its a fact. Possibly, some of the latinos you are thinking about are in positions where they face racism because of they color of their skin, and this causes them to have a need to relate to their group.
Lemme ask you something, do you find yourself being pushed to relate to your group because of the racism you face from latinos? If so, its the same thing. Unfortunately, its much more real to people of color.

Hope this helped, and open your eyes! I think you should try to make a Mexican friend, you'll end up falling in love with the culture.

Good Luck in your search for your own identity.

Mearly by thinking that race exists, you are being ignorant. Race is a human illusion. Race is used to determine the differance between two different species, like a dog and a cat. Since their is no scientific differance between people from Mexico and people from China, race does not exist. We are the same Species, and that is all that matters. We are one human race.

On a different note, I would like to add that pride, or even hatred, over something unchangeable (like the color of your skin) is the most idiotic thing I have ever heard of, be proud of your actions, hate other peoples bad choices, but not how they or you look.

Red Fighter 677- That was about the most uneducated, ignorant thing, I have heard in a couple weeks. The word race is used to define different populations of the human species(Homo sapiens). A dog and cat are a different species, not race. For you to say their is no scientific difference between different races, shows you have absolutely know knowledge of science. Their is absolutely scientific differences. Ever hear of DNA? How about genetic traits? Those can both easily be found scientifically distinguishable between races.... Humans are anatomically indistinguishable, but genetically we most certainly are.

Every race does this to a degree. Part of our identity comes from differentiating ourselves from everyone else. I know from living in South America that I felt a strong link to other white people, and when we saw each other, we felt like we knew each other, even if we didn't. Just from being an American - when I met a black man from the United States, it was like we were long lost friends.
Everyone who feels like they are a minority will do the same kind of thing. Don't worry about how much other people are judging you. You know they are, let that be their problem. All we need to worry about is not judging everyone else, and turn a blind eye to who is judging us. It doesn't work to judge people that judge people, or judge them for judging people. It makes you just as big of a hypocrite.

My Latino and Latina friends don't use "La Raza" in their mode of speaking. I only see it in printed material, like in newspapers once in a while. I think pride is a weakness for every ethnicity - we can all work on being more tolerant. I would not single out Mexicans in this case.

Yes...I think they (many) are racists. The ruling color of Mexico (brown) are unpleasant to say the least to the less populace blacks and whites of the country. It seems like Mexico has somehow found it's self deserving of some kind of recognition and power. two things that in my opinion they have yet to show they can handle.

I certainly think some of them are. Look at the slogan of the MEChA movement "For those of the Mexican race, everything; for those not of the Mexican race, nothing." I don't know what else you would call that but racist.
