I do know what speaking in tongues is. I just never have witnessed it before. Anyone have an example of what is being spoken? I'm just curious that is all.

Ok so it is "gibberish" and "unintelligable", can you explain more?

Oh yes I do believe in God. This is not a question of my faith in God. I'm just only educating myself as I enjoy learning all religions.

Ok so it is only understood by the person speaking a "gibberish-like" language. How interesting.

So if God were tp speak through a person in God's language, wouldn't that be considered being possessed by God. They talk about this in the Hindu religion. People can be possessed temporarily by an aspect of God and speak in God's language.

When a Christian receives the gift of tongues he/she is uttering God's Holy Word or Praising Him in a heavenly language. Sometimes, though, people have been given the gift of speaking in tongues of languages on earth other then their own like they did in the book of Acts during Pentecost. It's not rare it's just that most churches chose not to use it because it must be don't in complete order and instruction from the Holy Spirit and needs an interpreter. (See 1 Corinthians 12)

Speaking in "tongues" is a feeling that comes over a person, they are suppose to be in such throws of religious experience that they begin speaking in tongue.
As far as I am concerned, it is a bunch of bull! I've been to a church that had a congregation that got so moved by the Lord that they began babbling and convulsing on the floor. They looked down on you if you weren't as "moved" as they were, and were almost shunned. Lets just say that I was invited by a friend and I never went back, and have received no contact from that friend since.

It depends on what "Tongues" you are talking about. There would be two - biblical and what Christians pass off as a 'tongue'.

The biblical meaning of Tongues is explained quite clearly in Acts 2, where men were coming out of the Men's Court at the Temple and speaking human languages that others heard as their own tongue.

The Christian 'tongues' is nothing more than incoherent babbling, a running together of mock sounds and various semi-words in order to make one appear as to be talking a mystical language.

So, nothing is being spoken by Christians who are spekaing in 'tongues'.

It's from the Bible and the Bible tells a completely different story on what it's about. The translater in Star Trek that allowed everyone to understand each other closely resembles the Bible version. A person that only spoke English could talk to a person that only understood French and have a normal conversation.

Different people have different views of it. The only version I heard sounded like jibberish which would be the total opposite of the Bible version.

The so called "tongues" nowadays would sound something like this....frbgwberugfbibvfu0ywebr0gyuweui0vgfryboevf.....gibberish.
These are not tongues but falseor lying wonders. if the were from the Holy Spirit, only the saved in Christ could repeat them..a friend of mine thought he had tongues until he tried to cast a demon out of an alchoholic and the guy repeated the gibberish back...word for word...this got him to really start thinking and searching the scriptures

True tongues..which have ceased were..speaking in different languages at the exact same time...quite a miracle indeed...
(Act 2:4) And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
(Act 2:5) And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
(Act 2:6) Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
(Act 2:7) And they were all amazed and marveled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
(Act 2:8) And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
(Act 2:9) Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,
(Act 2:10) Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,
(Act 2:11) Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
(Act 2:12) And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?

How do I know that tongues have ceased??? The Word told us ahead of time...
1Co 13:8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

That and the fact that gibberish is not tongues...they will say that tongues edify the church wrong, twofold. they aren't speaking in tongues nowadays and tongues were for the UNBELIEVER.. that he might believe as a result of them.

1Co 14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.

It was explained to me that speaking in tongues is someone speaking god's word. I hear that it is illegible to people so that no evil person can interpret it. I have heard it spoken many times, It used to scare me to hear it because i did not know what it was. Now that I hear it sometimes at church it is not frightening at all. It actually is peaceful when the minister or someone else does their own interpretation of it.

It varies from person to person. It is your soul, the words of the holy spirit speaking directly to God. It is only truly from God if there is an interpreter there.

I witnessed it once. It was amazing, the power that filled the room. And almost all that was being said was unconditional praises to God. It was moving.

What a considerate query, with many well solutions already. I will attempt to upload to the understanding already given. In my reply I will use the phrase non secular to indicate the non bodily, even though now and then it kind of feels to have a bodily aspect. As I fully grasp it, within the establishing Our Creator created the whole thing in a non bodily, non secular, changeless, deathless truth. Some of the souls desired to produce other studies and desired to split from The Creator. It used to be now not viable to undo what the Creator had Created, nevertheless it used to be viable to create an phantasm, a dream global in which the whole thing is in steady difference and not anything is everlasting. The obstacle is in case you have created a dream that's so truly - how do you wake up? So regardless of our dream, we're nonetheless as God Created us and we now have an inkling that anything extra need to be to be had to us, however we have got to wake up from the dream. How? We don't see ourselves as ideal and we without doubt refuse to look our fellow guy as ideal. I have a e-book that involves 365 physical activities to aid us observe our possess perfection. It does not make us ideal, however is helping us appreciate our perfection already is. In our reward state, we are not able to understand or see the entire photo however as we close a real belief, The Eternal will wake up us.

The only example of speaking in tongues that I know of is in the book of Acts, the story of pentacost. The apostles spoke and all who listened heard in their own language.
I think now, you are considered to have the spiritual gift of tounges if it is easy for you to learn/speak/understand different languages, but I am not positive about that.
