I mean does the consciousness after bodily death survive and manifest itself in a form?

Yes. When a person dies there Spirit/Soul go to the place the Lord has prepared for them.
The spirits of terror are demons. Satan is a spirit. familiar spirits. There are other spiritual wickedness. Don't confuse them with your loved one that died. God commands us not to talk to the dead, because all we get in the communication is familiar spirits associated with family curse.
God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. There are spiritual Godly Angels. When someone becomes a born again Christian, there is a Spiritual rebirth. A new man in Christ.

You're going to get quite a few answers, most of which based upon their upbringings, research involved or no. I will try to present to you some theories as to where and how Spirits may exist.
It has been theorized that there are more dimensions than just three (or four, for that matter). In fact, some scientists and mathematicians have theorized that there could be about Seventeen dimensions, each one different in the information it contains! It is HIGHLY possible that what we know as "Spirits" are beings in another dimension, be they supernatural beings or otherwise.
As to why, the reasons are broad. Maybe a soul is stranded here, having made no decision as to Heaven, Hell, Paradise... whatever may lie after this life (provided there is one). In this case, these spirits may wander around their previous residences, either to rest their souls by completing something, or to simply fade away, hopefully into a positive after-life experience.
I have no actual sources, but from discussions with my peers, I may gather that the presentation of the information holds accurate.

As a child the chandelier used to swing from side to side, and the radio would turn on by itself in the middle of the night.
One time on a camping trip I was walking back from the bathrooms at that moment right between day and night and I saw someone walk across the front of the site and stop behind a tree. So I figure one of the people is going to jump out and try to surprise me, so I pull out my flashlight, walk up to the tree, turn on the light, and there's no one there.
One time I was alone in a house, and I felt a presence. I looked at a mobile hanging motionless, and said, "If there is anyone else here, make the mobile spin." The next moment, the mobile began to spin.
One time I was driving into Ponca State Park to set up a large camping gathering, and the sides of the road were lined with spirits. All standing there, clearly visible to everyone, calmly welcoming us back.
On another camping trip, we felt a spirit near the bon-fire. We had a ring of 40 tiki-torches around the bonfire. It was a still and windless night, but all the tiki flames near the spirit bent in. One of the people in the circle had a fancy camera. After the campout she went to get the film developed, and all the photos from before the visitor turned out, but after that all the film was blank. She took the camera in to be repaired. The repairman asked if she'd been in a nuclear power plant. All the innards were fried from electromagnetism
My grandmother died while my niece was in utero. After my niece was born, she would look up at areas where no one was standing, and laugh and giggle. We all knew that she was looking at gramma, so we never showed her any pictures. Finally, at about a year old, she could speak, and my sister showed her the family photo album. My niece picked out her photo and said, "That's Old Gramma."

well some will say yes to this wel others will say know , but i do belive in life after death ie sprit or form , alot of pepole say that they have seen forms or images walking in halls etc and i am one of them , there is a place in souther cali well a couple of places that pepole have seen images and herd sounds coming from diffrent rooms of te house that sounds like a kid bouncing a ball in the house , the place is now called banning museum , at one time it use to be the home of phinias banning , whos son or family member had died at the front door well pourch area when the young boys ball went out the door of the house and the lil boy ran after it and got trampled to death by a horse

good ones and bad ones exist. That is a fact. I don not lie to you and I am not speaking from theories. I am speaking from experience. They can actually be captured in cameras. I have some in my cell phone. But, the most important thing is not ghosts existance but one much more powerful: if ghosts exist, so does G--. This is the sequence in which I learned it.

It forms within other peoples brains through remembrance and influence. If they do not exist, than why would people around the world not believe they felt or seen them.
I believe they do do the the quantum physics of it all and string theory. Kinda like a quantum leap petaining to existence.

yes i have seen up close and personal a ghost, sprit what ever you want to call I was sleeping and had to use the bathroom so i was getting up and there it was right in my face i rolled over and decided that i don't have to use the bathroom that bad and tried to tell my self that it was just a dream but could not get my self to beleave that i am not the only person this has happened too he likes to scared u you wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom then in the house i was growing up in every time I walked in the house i heard people talking told my mom this and she told me that i was crazy but now she hears them and it scares her i thought it was cool.

Of course they do. It takes a lot of time and energy to create a soul; they aren't to be wasted.
Of course, they don't last FOREVER. It depends on how strong the spirit is. When the spirit runs out, not breaks, the soul fades and another one is created.
