Hydrogen Peroxide is safe for brushing. When using the peroxide, be sure to dilute it with an equal amount of water. Add the baking soda in and make a paste. This mixture does a beautiful job at whitening and the peroxide is good for your gums as well.
As far as having your teeth whitened, I have to tell you that most products open up the pores of the teeth and can cause decay, so I'd be cautious about getting whiteners. (I worked in dentistry, so I know). If you honestly need to have your teeth whitened because they are very discolored, be sure to have it done professionally by a dentist.
Good luck with the baking soda and peroxide!!

Yes.........Try combining baking soda and hydrogen peroxide for a wonderful whitening formula.
Add 1/4 teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide mixed with a rounded teaspoon full of baking soda will make a paste to whiten, and shine your teeth, in just a few months time.
Hope it works!

mix 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide, and 1 teaspoon of mouthwash, brush 3 times a day with a soft or medium toothbrush, never hard because that can wear down the enamel and damage your gums

I would not use peroxide. Baking soda I heard was okay, but not really affective. Crest whitening tooth paste works well and is the cheapest way to whiten our teeth. Hey we're brushing them everyday anyway, right?

I pour a little hydrogen peroxide on my brush and then apply toothpaste--it does seem to whiten teeth with no side effects.

My husband's family has been using hydrogen peroxide like Listerine. All of them still have their teeth today. Many of them are in their sixties.
