Stout is a type of ale, so it's fermented at a higher temperature than lager, typically with top-fermenting yeast. In the ale spectrum, stout would be at the dark end, right after porter. Stouts tend to taste better a bit warmer than lagers. There are lots of different varieties of stouts, Irish stouts being the best known (Guinness, Murphys and Beamish), Imperial stouts being the strongest, etc.

Stout is simply a stronger type of beer brewed differently. It's normally made using roasted malts or roast barley.
Im sure you've heard of Guinness, well that would probably be the most popular of the Irish stouts. Although there are many variations when it comes to this type of beer. I must warn you though, its an aquired taste.
The most common stout is Guinness, so you should have no issues finding a pub that carries it.

A stout is one of (if not the) darkest types of beer. They are usually more bitter. One misconception that people make is assuming that Guinness is a stout because it says "extra stout" on it. In reality, Guinness tastes like water when compared to a real stout.
