Options -> Alerts only disables the little square box poping up saying you have a message or someone is online. that is already disabled.

My taskbar is set to autohide and new messages will blink in the taskbar which makes it NOT autohide... That is my problem... I guess I'll try setting to busy.

Thank you.

"away" mode still makes incoming messages blink in my taskbar.

"busy" mode makes it highlighted in my taskbar but not blinking

but still my taskbar is not hidden. that is irritating.

Click on Tools>Options>Alerts and Sounds. In this window, uncheck the box which alerts you to new messages. Hope this helps!

put ur status as busy.it also stops it from popping up when someone signs in..so you would have to check it yourself..but it does help to stop irritating you i guess..
make sure u tell ppl tht ur not reali busy though...lol
OR...go through tools and options etc and find out how to stop alerts

Right click on messenger in your task bar, and stroll to " My Status " and click "Appear Offline." Your contacts should not be able to send you a message until you change your status. You will still be able to see your on line contacts, and if you want any on line contact to message you, you can change your status to appear on line.
