It is 11 or 12, as long as they are not taking care of younger siblings, otherwise it is endangering the other children. I do know that children as young as 11 can babysit and can take a babysitting course. But, it also depends on the maturity of the child, how well they follow rules, etc.

I'd say at least 12 years old, an age of high expectations. An age of the bat and bar mitzvah. In other cultures it may be 15 or older. It's best that children not be all alone even at that age. Just imagine yourself being all alone when so young.

I agree that it depends on the child if they act responsibly whether they are with you or not. If they do act responsibly, you still should quiz them about what would they do if such and such happened (fire, burglar, phone calls) and know what you want them to answer. Have trustworthy neighbors who also know if your child is home alone and can reach you if there be any reason to.

God bless you and yours.

far as i know there is no legal age. It depends on how mature your kid is. My mom started leaving me home alone at the age 6 1/2 but my cousin at 14 3/4 i was mature enough. You also have to be responsibal and trustworth. Trustworth becoz you may have to promise an adult that you wont open the door for a stranger. Responsibal so that if your incharge of the house and the little one, you can be relyed on to give the medicne or keep the young fellow clean. i hope that answers your question
