Su13 is off by about a factor of three.

I have walked between the Washington Monument and Capitol several times, and it is not more than 1.5 miles, maybe a little less. It's roughly 15 or 16 blocks, because numbering starts at the Capitol and the Washington Monument is just south of the Ellipse and 16th Street.

It is exactly one mile from the Capitol Building to the Washington Monument.

One mile exactly. You walk down from the promontory that the Washington Monument sits on, walk along the flat Mall, then back up a hill to the Capitol Building (They don't call it Capitol Hill for nothing.) ;)
