One of my teachers said to study something 15 minutes every day to retain it and then you will be able to remember it so much better. So whatever you want and need to remember, do that and see if that helps you. A healthy diet-breakfast, and vegetables and fruit may help you have more energy, and a brisk walk about 4 times a week. That will help your over all well-being. Plus read a lot of different things and trivia Q and facts. I also heard about that --Ginko Biloba or what ever spelling, is helpful for people with a memory problem. It is in the vitamin/herbal section of the pharmacy.

Doing puzzles improves thought processes, try things like crosswords and sudoku. Also, oily fish like tinned sardines and smoked haddock have a chemical in them that improves the conductivity of electrical impulses in the synapses of your brain improving its thinking power. You can buy it in tablet form, but I can't remember what its called.
Avoid TV like the plague, as it encourages a passive and idle mental state that is not condusive to active thinking, and the constant interruption and changing of continuity on the screen with adverts and especially with MTV destroys concentration spans.
Try writing, even if you aren't any good at it. You don't have to show anyone, but it helps improve thinking.
Vegetables and exercise are also supposed to help.

Ginko Biloba
Ginkgo has been used in traditional medicine to treat circulatory disorders and enhance memory. Scientific studies throughout the years lend support to these traditional uses. Emerging evidence suggests that GBE may be particularly effective in treating ailments associated with decreased blood flow to the brain, particularly in elderly individuals. Laboratory studies have shown that GBE improves blood circulation by dilating blood vessels and reducing the stickiness of blood platelets.

Optimal nutrition is key, true enough, but only a part of it.
A recent new study confirms that regular exercise halts or reduces neuron and synaptic degeneration in Alzheimer disease.
Researchers from the University of Pittsburgh presented their findings last week at the Annual Meeting of the Society for Neuroscience in San Diego, California.
In one study, researchers exposed laboratory rats to a toxin known to trigger Alzheimer symptoms. However, prior to exposing the rats to the toxin, the researchers forced the rats to exercise for a period of seven weeks.
When researchers examined the rat's brain cells signifcatly lower neuron damage was noted, compared to control sample. d.
Lead study author, Dr. Michael Zigmond believes exercise stimulates the production of key proteins that are required for the survival of neurons.
"Our data suggest the possibility that exercise can make dopamine neurons resistant to neurotoxins and may therefore be a useful therapy for functional decay," said Annie Cohen, research doctoral assistant at UPSM.

Food doesn't help in memory.
All that food does is to keep you healthy.
If you believe a healthy mind resides in a healthy body - then eat healthy food, sleep well, do some exercises, keep your body fresh. This in turn will keep your mind refreshed always.
Refreshed mind can take fresh ideas and grasping it better will push it into memory... makes sense?
