An open credit card account should appear on your credit report within 30 days maximum, but building your credit history takes longer. If you want to improve your credit score, make sure you make your payments on time, do not "max out" your credit line, make payments above the minimum payment, and do not open extra accounts that you don't need. With at least 6 months of responsible payments under your belt, you should see your FICO (credit score) start to climb.
