i have 2 little parakeets and when u stick your hand in thare cage they go nuts and if u grab them or try to put them on ur finger they bite does anny one know how 2 tame them?

Parakeets are a challege if they were not hand fed to begin with, however, they can still be tamed.
Try feeding them seed while they are safe in their cage. Parakeets that are not tame will fear you because you are substantially larger than them. Their cage is their safe haven. Take a seed between your fingers and present it as an offering. When you speak to them, use a higher register than your normal voice.
When you have to trim their claws and you have them comfortably wrapped in the towel, pet them for awhile and talk to them (in the higher register).

I strongly recommend that you do NOT physically punsh them for biting. If they are biting out of fear, punishment will only scare them more. Try giong for a slow, methodical approach. If they bite or act frightened at any step, go back to the one before for a while. Progress to the next when you see obvious signs of relaxation (preening, fluffing up, singing, etc.).
1. Just stand outside their cage. Be silent. Make them think that you are the most boring thing ever, at least for now.
2. Put your hand on the outside of the cage without opening the door. If they lunge at your hand, try just extending it near the cage door.
3. Hold the cage door open with your hand.
4. Make a tight fist to protect yourself from potential bites and put your hand a few inches into the cage. Hold it there. Don't try to touch the birds.
5. At this point, you need to teach the birds that coming out of their cage onto your hand is a nice thing. Gently and carefully remove one bird from the cage with a towel. (Do one bird at a time.) Put the bird on a T-stand or some simple perch and just let it sit next to you while you work. Talk to it occasionally and give it yummy bits of fruits and nuts. When it seems ready, do some gentle, nonthreatening head-petting. Also practice stepping up onto your hand from the perch. Repeat with the other bird.
6. After both birds relax in your presence and seem to enjoy time spent with you, try removing them from the cage on your hand. If they don't comply immediately, gently and quietly towel them so that you get your way but don't scare them. Be firm and consistent with this method: hand first, then if they won't come, towel.
I know this is a long method, but I have had a huge amount of success with it, including with one bird so scared of hands that he battered his wings bloody on the cage bars. Good luck!!

i have a parakeet too! You need to be patient with these lil critters, if they freak when you put your hand in their cage, you need them to get used to you. First start by sitting by their cage and talking to them. Then move your hand up to where they'll see it, and know it cant hurt them. If they are comfortable with all this then you can open the cage door and just leave you hand in it for ten minutes twice a day, with out moving your hand. And it might help if you offered them some millet too, they love that stuff! Just always move slow around them, did you know that parakeets can also talk? (And by the way, never thump their beaks, they will get soooooooo scared of you.)

This is what I tell customers. Have the wings clipped when purchasing the bird. Use a wooden spoon or bird perch to teach the bird to step up. Every time you open the cage, talk soft to the bird, Scotch tape a piece of apple or other piece of food you are sure it will eat onto the perch or spoon. As soon as the bird gets on, then gently lift bird and perch away from cage. Eventually the bird will be used to you and will come willingly and will even take food from your hand. Please don't ever hit any animal.

Firstly, attract them by their favourite food e.g. chilly or guava or nuts. Then using hand gloves or a cloth grab them out, ignoring their bites. Fondle them while attracting their attention to food. Do this 2 hours a day. They'll be tamed in 2 weeks.

When they go to bite you thump their beeks. It's taught my parrot not to bite me. Just spend alot of time with them. Birds also like to spend alot of time out side, when your not home put them outside, or leave the T.V. or raido on. They like noise.

you definily need to work on it because they don't come to u very easy. i owned 12 parkeets at one time. take your time and use treats to train them and tame them
