The old testament is a collection of literature, from a people that span 70 generations. Every 7Th generation, there is a story, and every 10th generation there is a story. The first group has 10 stories, the second has 7. Only the 1st generation (Adam), and the last (Jesus), are of both groups. The Dragon (the old testament) is those stories. It's purpose is to illustrate the messianic prophecies. The crowns are on the group of 10 (every 7th generation). The woman is Israel (twelve tribes), that produces the messiah (70th generation). In chapter 13, another beast (the new testament), the crowns are on the group of 7 (every 10th generation), and illustrate the second advent of Christ.

This sounds arcane, and has nothing to do with the end of the world, earthquakes, or alien invasions. It is an ancient method of organizing oral tradition. The modern Bible is organized by Chapter, and Verse (John; 3, 16). Much of the symbolize of the apocalypse is lost, or confused, when you don't see the book of Revelation as a template, for the building of the Bible as a whole book. It's sort of like Cliff's notes, with pictures.

p.s. I don't, in any way, shape or form, think that the ancient Hebrews where satanic, or evil. Nor do I think that the authors of the Gospels believed that either. My screen name is satirirical, and illustrates my opinion of society.

All anyone has "for now" is educated guesses which may or may not be correct. This much I do know - these things will become more clear to God's elect as we get closer to the day of Antichrist and the day of the Lord's return to destroy the Antichrist with his cohorts.

On example would be in the Old Testament.., Book of Daniel chapter 9:27. The stepped up troubling events in the Middle East and elsewhere have pulled my focus in on Islam - much to my surprise after years of study.., the Antichrist which comes soon - comes from a detestable temple - which sits on a wing of Solomon's Temple - not Solomon;s temple itself but sits on a wing of the temple.

Imagine my surprise when I took note that the Muslim's, "Dome of the Rock Mosque" sits there - ON THE WING OF THE REMNANT OF THE TEMPLE MOUNT! Precisely as was relayed to Daniel by the angel Gabriel. It is from this Dome of the Rock where the Antichrist will make his debut - and I believe this will take place very soon. Imagine the surprise when people realize there is no pretribulation rapture and will have to endure 3 1/2 to 7 years of tribulation the Antichrist causes.

I had not discovered it until global events registered at the right time in history. Thus - the mysteries not formerly understood will be understood as events unfold. Mens minds are blocked to the mysteries though it be as plain as the nose on one's face - until God lifts that veil so a man can see.

What does Revelation chapter 12 mean?

Question: "What does Revelation chapter 12 mean?"

Answer: In Revelation chapter 12, the woman is described as "clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars" (Revelation 12:1). Note the similarity between this description and the description that Joseph gave of his father Jacob (Israel) and his mother and their children (Genesis 37:9-11). The stars refer to the twelve tribes of Israel. So, the woman in Revelation 12 is Israel.

Additional evidence is that in Revelation 12:2-5, the passage speaks of the woman being with child and giving birth. While it is true that Mary gave birth to Jesus, it is also true that Jesus, the son of David from the tribe of Judah, came from Israel. In a real sense, Israel gave birth, or brought forth, Christ Jesus. Further evidence for this is in 12:5 where the Scripture says that the woman "gave birth to a son, a male child, who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron; and her child was caught up to God and to His throne." This is easily understood as describing Jesus. Jesus will one day establish His kingdom on earth (Revelation 20:4-6) and He will rule. This verse also makes reference to Jesus' ascension to heaven 40 days after His resurrection (Acts 1:9-11) speaking of the son "being caught up to God and to His throne."

When it speaks of the woman fleeing into the wilderness for 1,260 days, it is referring to the future time called the Tribulation period. 1,260 days is 42 months of 30 days each. 42 months is 3 1/2 years. Halfway through the Tribulation period, the beast will set an image of himself up in the temple that will be built. This is the abomination that Jesus spoke of in Matthew 24:15 and Mark 13:14. When the beast does this, he breaks the peace pact he made with Israel, and the nation has to flee for safety (also see Matthew 24; Daniel 9:27).

Revelation 12:12-17 speak of how the devil will make war against Israel, trying to destroy her (Satan knows his time is short, relatively speaking--see Revelation 20:1-3, 10). It also speaks of how God will protect Israel while in the wilderness. This wilderness place where Israel will flee is believed to be a place called Petra. Note Revelation 12:14 where it says that Israel will be protected from the devil for "a time, times, and half a time (a time = 1 year -- 3 1/2 years).

Very few people know the exact meaning of every one of these. I think the stars are the 12 tribes of Israel, the woman is Israel, the baby is Jesus, the dragon is the devil. Not sure about the horns, heads, or crowns.
Understanding of this must come through study, questioning, and most importantly, praying. God may not give you full understanding any time soon though so that you dont' become conceited. He also may want to make sure you focus on getting to know him more than on understaning prophecy.

There you go, I hope this helps:

1: And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:
2: And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.
3: And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.
4: And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.
5: And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.
6: And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.
7: And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
8: And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
9: And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
10: And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
11: And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
12: Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
13: And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.
14: And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
15: And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.
16: And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.
17: And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

It's nonsense and gibberish, but some people claim it's a "prophecy" and make a career out of swindling suckers by "interpreting" it.

Additional comment:

I can hardly wait to see the "earth open her mouth," I never knew the earth had a "mouth." If the earth has a mouth, I wonder where the other end (anus) is?

Also keep in mind that a great number of bible thumpers claim this is literally true and that it is not metaphorical or allegorical, that all this will literally happen.

Oh, I see, in order to "interpret" this prophecy, you have to buy those special glasses that allow you to see those hidden meanings.

Revelations is not "prophecy," it is gibberish.

I think the best thing you can do is find a study companion for it.

Revelations is confusing to all who have studied it for hundreds of years. My uncle has been on a quest to figure it out for over 20 years, and still is not sure. And thats the way God wanted it. It is meant to be a mystery, so its hatd to tell. Look into books written about it, with theroies on it.

I did find this link:http://www.gotquestions.org/Revelation-chapter-12.html

It gives a synopsis. It reads:

Contrary to my learned collegues before me, Revelation is not gibberish nor is it confusing and takes years to understand.

However, to provide a "short" meaning to everything in Revelation 12 is impossible.

But, take a look at this site for a very good exposee of Revelation 12.
