What is there to find? Can you even prove that God exists? If you can't, then why do you want to find him/her/it? Might as well try and find a unicorn or a leprechaun. If you're feeling "lonely and empty," then you need to evaluate your life to find out why, not turn to fairy tales for false comfort.
Do you have friends? If not, or if you want more, then go places and do things that will enable you to meet more people. They aren't going to come knocking at your door. Do you often feel sad, empty, bored, just want to sleep all the time, feel that life is pointless, etc.? You might have depression, which can be helped with counseling and medication. Ask your family doctor for a referral. (I am assuming you're an adult; if not, go to a school counselor for help or ask some other adult that you trust.)
You say you haven't always done your best in life. Everyone feels this way! We could all do better with our lives, we all sometimes waste the opportunities that come along, or we make wrong decisions. When that happens, you chalk it up as a learning experience and keep right on going. If you dwell in the past too much, you won't be able to enjoy the present.

i can totally relate to you. There have been times in my life where I felt so alone and empty like there was this hole in my heart that could not be filled no matter how hard i tried to fill it. I later realized that the hole in my heart was reserved for Jesus. Just get down on your knees and pray. There is no certain formal way to do it. Just let loose on everything that has been bothering you and ask Him to come into your life and your heart. You will instantly feel better I promise! Its the best feeling! Then just try to get involved in a church or group or if your not ready for that, just read a book on Christianity or the Bible and you will always have support and love all around you. Good luck!

Do you believe in Jesus and what He did?
Jesus is the Son of God and He came down to die on the cross for your sins.
Confess that and ask Jesus to come into your life as your Lord and Savior and you are saved.
Next, you need to get you a bible and begin to read the New Testament ( start with the 4 first books) There you will find out about Jesus, what He did, How He was and what He taught and apply that to you life.
You need to start praying on a daily basis, for strength because life will not get perfect just because you got saved. your life will change the more you read and study the word but it takes time and strength, be patient and do not give up.
Then you need to find a good church were the Word is taught from the bible ( beginning to end ) and don't just go on Sundays. try to go to every event, bible study single ministry ( if you are single), you need to be around sisters and brothers as much as possible. that will help you to grow and stay strong.
believe me once you have given your life to the Lord and get saved that emptiness will be gone.

Seek Him with an open heart and an open mind. He promises that if we seek Him we will find Him.
Pray to Him. Read the Bible. I'd start with one of the gospels. John is my favorite. Then Acts.
Remember that God knows we are not perfect. Growth is a process. He also knows that guilt is a heavy burden to carry, which is why He makes forgiveness and redemption possible.
May God bless you as you seek Him.

You are right, you do need God, he left an empty spot in every heart that can only be filled by his spirit. God gave us only one way to come to him and make peace with him and that is through Jesus Christ. If you are ready to be reconciled to God he has already made a way for you. You need to go through Jesus, so simply admit your a sinner and that you need a savior and ask Jesus to be your Lord and he will help you with the rest, find a good bible teaching church. God said when you seek him with your Whole Heart you will find him. If I can assist you further e-mail me @sbcglobal.net

The fact that you are feeling this way and acknowledge that you need Him is a huge step!
Tell (pray) God about how you feel and try reading the Gospel of John in the Bible. Actually any part of the New Testament will help.

I believe if you can be openminded enough, you will see God right now, just by looking at some of these replies. God is best seen in the caring people around us who are willing to treat each other with love and concern. Once you begin to recognize God's existence in other people your faith will grow and you're concept of God will grow and you're lonliness and emptiness will fade away.

Time to admit to God that you are a sinner..that you are lonely and you know you cannot make it in this life alone. Tell him you believe in him and that he died to save us from our sins and that you invite him into your life.Once you admit this my friend you're hooked.Read your Bible. The New Living Bible is a great translation because it's so easy to read.Start in the New Testament...when you finish then read the old testament. It's basically your history where the new testament aimes more toward today.

God's truly working in your life right now. He wants you to find him. He is urging you to seek him. Here are some wonderful verses.
Luke 1:78-79
Because of the tender mercy of our God,
by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven
to shine on those living in darkness
and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the path of peace."
Romans 5:1
Therefore, having been justified by faith,
we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
(Faith is all you need!)
Good Luck! Put your Faith in God! He Loves you and Cares about you!

Finding God takes no effort. God loves you. He has been watching, waiting for you. The way to find God is to believe in Jesus and choose to be his son or daughter in your actions. It is that simple. I am not saying that life will be all good all the time after that (it may even get harder for seasons), but that it will be more purposeful. God has been waiting for you. He strongly desires to be close to you. He loves you. Spending time in the Bible and just coming to God and sitting in His prescense are the best ways to get to know Him.
Also, about your life, no one has done their best. Paul used to put Christians in prison before he came to Christ. As long as you are truly sorry for your sins, God forgives you. They are gone.
