It is possible that she is craving minerals. Most Americans are chronically deficient in essential trace metals. The consumption of gluey dairy and wheat products destroys the villi in the jejenum and prevents the absorption of metals like iron. Taking an iron supplements IS NOT A GOOD IDEA, (ferrous fumurate, like fouind in centrum is toxic, cf. www.centrumistoxic.com), but getting it from whole foods is! You can also give the child trace mineral drops from "Trace Mineral Research," a biologically active and safe form of 72 minerals from the sea. Its a guess, but at least it can't do harm.

I use to do that. I mostly did it to my moms car keys. I dont know. Metal always had this cooling sensation whenever I use to like..suck/chew on it . Plus it tasted kinda on the interesting side. Just she will grow out of it. You just got to tell her that its bad for her (that or you can scare it out of her and tell her that the things she is putting in her mouth can make her sick and she should stop it [I know thats kinda harsh] but it worked on me).

How old is the child? If he or she is a toddler, this is expected. If he is twelve, talk to the pediatrician about whether anemia could be a problem. This could be pica in an older kid who may have iron deficiency anemia.

I used to do stuff like that when I was little. Not quite sure why I did it, but it was just a phase that I grew out of.
